Noticing Her

"Reece wait, I.."

I followed her fast pace, trying to catch up.

"Hey, come on..."

I grab her shoulder softly, making her face me, only to see her turn around crying. Did I do this?

"Hey what's-"

She cuts me off quickly.

"Leave me alone Kirt...please"

Shocked, I let her go and she walks away fast.

3 months before
"Mom, I'm going, I have everything in my truck."

I had packed up for campus. I'm moving to a boarding school in my junior year of high school.

"Ok sweetie. Are you sure you got everything?

"Yes mom, I'm sure"

"Aw ok. Well..."

She hugs me tight and I hug back. Me being taller than her gives her somewhat a bit of comfort I guess. I hate moving out and leaving her alone. But she's had trouble since dad left. Maybe it'll help her some.

"I'll miss you Kirt"

She let's go of me.

"You be good ok? Follow the rules, remember to call me every Sunday like we discussed."

"Yes mom I know."

I grab my last two bags and my keys.

"I'll be fine."

I kiss her forehead and walk out the door, leaving her standing in the door way.

"Love you"

"Aw love you too baby"

I walk to my truck, open the door, throw my bags in the passenger side and get in. I start the car and wave to my mom who's now crying.

"Love you!"

I shout out my open window before driving away.

"4 hour trip starts now.."

4 hours later I pull up to what's supposed to be my dorm building, 43 out of 50. I get out, lock my truck and walk in to find my room. 25A. I knock, hoping not to scare my roommate if he's already in there, then I walk in. No one is here yet. I walk back down the hallway, down to my truck and start hauling my 3 suitcases out. I get them to my room and shut the door behind me. The paper I got in the mail said my roommates name is Will. Since he's not here I might as well unpack. I pull the suitcases against the wall and open one to clothes. I fold all my clothes and put them in the drawer neatly. The next suitcase has my essentials like tooth brush and paste and I put it all up. By the time I'm done unpacking and sit on the flimsy dorm couch, a guy burst in the room.

"Oh..hi. I didn't expect you to be here yet."

He walks in with 2 suitcases and sets them by the bunk bed.

"Do you mind if I take top bunk?"

He climbs up on top before I can answer.
