My opinion :
I think selfie sticks were created for people who's hands aren't that big and they cannot take a group selfie .
So selfie sticks are created to take a group selfie
Reality:
Selfie stick is a monopod used to take a group selfie photographs by positioning a smart phone or a camera beyond the range of the arm
The metal sticks a extendable you just have to connect the smart phone or a camera and you then just have to press a button
