I felt the paint all over my body. I placed my paintbrush on the little glass of water I had in the stool in front of me, and watched the paint dissolve in the water as i stepped back. A 1920s girl and her lover illustrated all over the seven feet tall canvas. "She needs something", i whispered, but before i could figure it out the phone rang.
I answered it with a puzzled hello. Who could be calling at this time at night. "Ella!" i hear with great excitement at the other end of the phone line. "Camille", i sighted "Why are you up so late?" i asked. "Your first major art gallery is tomorrow! i knew you would be up really late perfecting everything for the big night!" she explained in a sarcastic yet friendly tone.
How dose she know me so well. Maybe because we grew up together. she is the closets thing i have for a sister. She is also the reason I'm a artist. She is the reason i have made it so far.
"Camille, you have your play tomorrow you have to get some rest". i said worried. "Oh darling, i have done that play a million times! twice a week, every week. I know my lines in my sleep. I'm fine darling. Actually i called the director this morning, so my replacement takes my place tomorrow night and i get to go to your gallery!". She said in her usual glamorous way. "Oh Camille you didn-", she cut me off before i could finish. "Ella, don't even mention it I'm going. its your first major art gallery here in Paris! and its featured in the Hotel Du Louvre, i love going there. Anyways darling i just wanted to check up on you. See you tomorrow Love!", and she hanged the phone.
Still confused, i hanged my end of the line and sighted "Oh Camille". I returned to my canvas and added a few things, but never quite figured out what was missing. I decided i had leave it like this for the gallery and figure it out some other time.
I exited the room i was in, where i had all of my art stuff, and walked across my small bohemian era inspired apartment into the kitchen. i grab a warm cup of tea and stood in the small living room where all the drawings and paintings that i had made where for tomorrows show. Most of them where sights here in Paris, and some where Camille in her various roles she had played the past few months at the Palais Garnier. And the last piece was the 1920s girl and her lover.
I had the cup of tea tightly around both of my hands, going through all of the paintings. I sat down in my window rest and saw Paris lit with beautiful city lights. Whenever i could, i had stare this extravagant view and relax for a while. Not think of things, and not feel homesick. I had just moved to Paris. Me and Camille came from a small French town called Vézènorbres. When Camille got her first role at the Palais Garnier, she moved to paris and i soon followed. I figured there would be more work offers in the big city of Paris than our small hometown.
I started thinking about Camille, and how she has supported me through the years. Both my parents died a time long ago. Her and her family are all i had left. ~
