Connor had lost all control.
He disdained that his husband of seven months had passed away. He fumed about the careless driver that had killed the first and only man that he had ever loved. No one deemed the outburst questionable or surprising. He did not care that he was not beguiling the time. The surrounding friends and family let the man take his time to accept that Troye's body was rapt and that his body fell into a permanent repose.
The whole ordeal had taken nearly two hours before Connor could finally calm down enough to let the funeral continue, if not for himself then for the other people that also needed to grieve.
He didn't think that he would ever be okay again, but when he felt a light pressure of a surrounding force embracing him, he knew that Troye was still with him. Troye would always be there, just like the two had always promised to each other.
