My feet padded slowly down the cracked and beaten concrete. I kicked along the pebbles in my way. I looked up and about. The sky was slowly turning into its usual pink-ish orange-ish ombre color just before sunset.
My mind was wandering just like my feet along this path. Finally I came upon my all too familiar hell hole of a house. My life behind doors isn't bad, its just that it's too,... How should I put this... Normal. I want something different, weird, extraordinary. I'm tired of the same old repetitive days. Wake up, eat breakfast, walk Kaylee to school, go to school myself, do school thing, and walk home.
I walked up my drive way and to my door. I opened the door slowly in fear of what's to come.
"Ty-ty! I had soo much fun at school,"my five year old sister yelled as she tackled me into the door I had just barely closed. "But Britney was being a raisin all day. She made me eat sand, and I cried. A lot. But then the nice lady person who came instead of Mrs.Holster helped me and put Britney in time out for two whole days! And we built stuff with legos and I built a tower for a ninja to climb up, like in Spongebob. And I had made a new friend named Alyssa. She is very very nice." Kaylee babbled on about her day.
I simply nodded not yet over the stun of the sudden impact. I groaned and straightened myself out before picking up my dearest. "Kaylee baby, where is mommy? And calling people a raisin is not nice." I say walking towards the kitchen with her balanced on my hip. I sat her down on the counter and walked over to the cupboard waiting for her reply.
"Oh, mommy went to go spend some time with Ms.Jessie. But she really was. She was being nasty and mean. And raisins are nasty just like Britney." she replied. I disregarded the whole raisin comment and almost began to freak.
"How long has mommy been gone Snookems?" I question her before I begin to go into full freak out mode. Who knows what could have happened between the time that mom left and I arrived.
"She only just left before you got here. Why Ty-ty? Is there something wrong!" she yelled looking around her as if an assassin would pop up at any given moment.
"No Snookems, just wondering." I said calmly before turning and fishing through the cupboards for the ingredients for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I then turned back around and grabbed a butter knife before assembling my sisters meal until my mother came home to cook an appropriate one.
"So what's been going on with Ms.Jesse that had mom running to meet her?" I asked my younger sister. I didn't really expect her to answer. She surprised me when she did.
"Well mommy said something about Ms.Jesse's boyfriend hurting her. She said everything was gonna be okay, but I think that Ms.Jesse's boyfriend should go into time out for two days like Britney. Don't you Ty-ty?" she stated, cocking her head to the side to emphasize her last sentence.
I didn't expect an answer, especially not that one. So when I did I covered my mouth in surprise.
"Ty-ty! Ty-ty, I asked you think that Ms.Jesse's boyfriend needs a long time out but you didn't answer me! Answer me!"she yelled jumping up and down on the counter with an angry frown on her face. One thing she hates is to not be answered.
"I'm sorry Snookems, yes I do think that he should go into a long time out, but I also think that you should eat your peanut butter and jelly sandwich and get ready for a bath." I said pushing the sandwich towards her. She nodded silently before taking a 'big' bite out of the sandwich. She gave a thumbs up as if to say that the sandwich was good while chewing vigorously. I smiled at her and mimicked her hand motion before heading upstairs and into my room.
Since it was Friday I didn't even bother to bring my back pack home, I had no home work so what was the point of carrying around something I don't need. No point at all. Exactly. I jumped onto my bed trying my best not to relax because I'd have to get up sooner or later to get Kaylee into the bath, and then hop in myself.
I bet you are thinking what five year old can't bathe themselves. Well Kaylee can bathe herself, she just doesn't like to. The smart cookie will get naked, run the water, sprinkle a bit on her hair, and wait. Wait until it seems the time that it would take a five year old to bathe, and run out without laying an ounce of soap on her skin. That is why we have to sit on the toilet as she bathes just to be sure.
Sure enough, Kaylee began yelling for me. "Ty-ty! Ty-ty! I'm all done! The sandwich is all gone now!" I slowly walked downstairs and to Kaylee who was seated on the counter a crooked toothed grin on her adorable baby face. I grabbed her cheeks and squeezed them before picking her up and carrying her towards the bathroom.
I then left her to get situated in the tub while I went to get her clothes, towel, and rag. When I gathered all her things she was in the tub already.
"Ty-ty, can I have some bubbles please?!" She begged. I don't see why not. I grabbed her strawberry scented bubble bath liquid and put a bit in the tub before stirring the water to get the bubbles there. I then sat on the toilet and let Kaylee do her own little thing.
After a few minutes I heard a door open and close. Either mom just got home, or I forgot to lock the door and a burglar just waltzed into my house. I'm hoping for the ladder. And it seems that god is on my side because my mother yells up to us letting us know she has arrived with guests.
This puzzles me because she say guest as in plural.
"Sit here and finish up. I'll be right back. Ok Snookems?" I tell Kaylee, waiting for her head to shake up and down before I get off the toilet and began my journey to the lower half of the house. I rushed down the stairs, attempting two at a time, when I failed miserably and tripped on the second to the last step.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah I'm fine. It just seemed that the floor needed a hug." I said dusting myself off and standing up. I come face to face, more like face to chest, with a rather tall guy. Stubble ran across his sharp jaw, and his stormy grey eyes bored into my rather dull forest green ones.
"Ok?" he said, probably questioning my sanity. "Well my name is-"
He was cut off by my mother."His name is Oliver and he will be living with us along with Mrs. Jesse. I hope you both don't mind sharing a room." she announced.
"Well welcome to my- our humble abode." I said taking note of my mother's use of the word living.
