I lean against my locker, smiling smugly at my best friend, Robbie. As people pass by us in the hall, every one of them enthuses about the party I'd been planning that would be happening that day.
"Cody, I can't wait for your party," and, "Dude, this party's gonna rock!" some people shout at me. Robbie and I just stand there, enjoying it all.
"Cody, shouldn't we leave to set up your party?" Robbie asks.
"Yeah. Just a second. I see Tamara," I say.
My girlfriend, Tamara, walks past the crowd of people rushing home. I smile at her sweetly and she smiles awkwardly at me.

"Hi, Cody," she says stiffly.
"Hey, Tammy."
I embrace her, but pull away when I realise the hug feels very one-sided. I give her a suspicious look, but she keeps a stiff expression.
"Is something wrong?"
Robbie decides to leave and tells me he'll wait by his car for me, leaving me alone with Tamara.
"Cody, we need to break up," she blurts.
"What?! Wh-why? I thought things were going great and-and you said we were the perfect match for—"
"I'm sorry, Cody. You're great and all, but you ... I don't ... I don't like the way you look at other girls and my friends told me you had something going on with Samantha—"
"So you're just going to break up with me over something you didn't even talk to me about? Tammy, it's not like you ever asked me about this or anything. I think you're jumping to conclusions."
"Cody, I've seen you with Samantha before and I didn't like how it looked. I think it's best for us if we break up."
She kisses my cheek and walks away in the direction she came from, leaving me confused and furious. Now that the halls are less packed, I run down the hall and exit from the back door to the parking lot where I see Robbie leaning against his black Audi.
"Hey, man. What did she say?"
I shake my head slowly, a look of pure anger plastered on my face and Robbie knows not to talk about the whole way to my house. When we get there, Robbie parks in the driveway and I quickly get out of the car and into my house. As soon as I kick my shoes off, I go up to my room and undress so that I'm just in my boxers. I slump down on my bed and huff. The door opens and Robbie walks in slowly.
"Please don't yell at me, but if she really hurt you, maybe I can help," he says slowly.
I bury my face in my hands and close my eyes, sighing deeply.
"Bitch dumped me and didn't even give me a chance to explain," I say. "She said she saw me with Samantha and I don't even know what she was talking about."
"You know, you're better off without girls like that in your life, Cody. She didn't realise how stupid she was being and she'll probably regret it."
"The worst part is, we were planning on spending our whole summer together. I mean, the last day of school is supposed to be a day people look forward to, then look back on for being such a great day. Instead I got dumped!"
Robbie stands silently by the door, looking at me, trying to figure out the best thing to say. He walks over to my bed and sits down.
"Cody, I can guarantee that some time this summer, she will come crawling back to you on all fours, begging for you to take her back. And you know what you're gonna do? You're gonna walk away from her and act like she was never a part of your life."
