Innocence

Ida was in the kitchen with her head in the cupboard.

"I'm back." I said startling her.

"Oh my, you scared me. How was that job?" Ida said leaning against the counter.

"Good. It took a lot of worry off my mind."

"Well that's good." She said nodding. "Could you do me a favour?" She asked.

"It's the least I could do, your letting me stay the night."

"I just need someone to watch Isi while I go to the store." She asked unsure of what my answer would.

"Of course, where is she?" I asked looking around for her.

"Out the back." She said pointing to Isi on the swings.

"Okay you go. I'll watch her." I said smiling at her before walking out the back and pushing Isi on the swings.

She was a curious little thing always asking questions.

Isi was so cute, with her gasps in her teeth, dimples and little lisp in her words. She wanted to climb the trees, run till she couldn't breathe and find amazement in the tiniest things. She had a small cubby-house out the back under the trees where she had jars of things she collected.
She made me happy and sad at the same time.

Happy because spending time with children makes me happy, happy because of their innocence. And sad because she reminds me of Ella and how I'll never be able to experience this with her or any other child of my own. This reminds me that I'm dead with nowhere to go but keep rising. This reminds me that I'm eternal, and that I'll be alive to see Isi die. Sad because of her innocence. Because soon she'll be stripped of it and be thrown into the real world. Where Witches, Vampires, Werewolves, and Angels roam.

That night we had a big dinner and watched nonsense animation movies before setting Isi to bed. Isi fell asleep instantly. I stood there in her doorway watching her sleep. Poor little innocent girl. She doesn't know that she's a witch. She's going to have a tough life, being normal then suddenly not being normal and then afterwards wanting desperately to be normal. I've seen it time and time again.

I returned to my room and called Stefan. Who after two tries answered.

"Hey Lina." He answered.

"Hey are you ok?" I asked.

"Yeah, we're in the Smoky Mountains, Klaus's experiment didn't work so we're.....Oh he wants to talk to you, hang on."

There was a ruffle.

"Hello love, shame you couldn't join us for our weekend massacre." He said I could practically feel him smirking.

"Oh hot dang, did I miss it. Oh well there's always next time." I said sarcastically.

He chuckled.

"Where are you?" He asked.

"Safe, what was Stefan about to say?" I asked.

"He was about to say that after a fail and waste of werewolves Stefan and I shall be making a trip to the lovely city of Chicago."

"The windy city? Why?"

"Because there is someone there who can help me. You're welcome to join us."

"Of cause. See you tomorrow then. Goodnight Nicklaus." I said.

"Goodnight Angel." He said, but I couldn't tell if he meant that as a joke or on purpose because he knows Stefan doesn't know what I am.

"Hi, Lina I'm back. Look I'm fine, stop worrying, I'll see you in Chicago." Stefan said.

"Alright Stefan, have a nice trip." I said before hanging up.

I then called Damon who answered straight away.

"Damon? How's everything going at home?" I asked then hitting myself for calling Mystic Falls home.

"I don't know were not in Mystic Falls." Damon said in a grumpy tone.

"What do you mean you're not in Mystic Falls? Where are you?" I asked.

"Smoky mountains."

"What! Why!?" I demanded, Nik was in the Smoky mountains.

"Because Elena wanted to go werewolf hunting on a full moon." He said with sarcastically upbeat.

"She what! Are you all ok?" I asked getting nervous.

"We're all fine. She asked Ric and he said yes but on the way there he text me telling me so I followed. Elena thought she'd see Stefan, but she was wrong." He said.

I was suddenly confused.

"Am I am loud speaker?" I asked.

"No, but Elena and Ric are here if you want to talk to them." He said.

"Oh, um yeah put me on loud speaker I'll talk to them both at the same time." I said.

"Alright....You're on loud speaker."

"Elena, are you ok?" I asked.

"Yes I am, where are you I thought you said you were with Stefan?" She asked.

"I was, but I decided to take a break from them, don't worry I'm meeting up with them soon though. Stefan is ok, but their moving on, I'm meeting up with them tomorrow. No I will not tell you where, just go home and be with Jeremy and your friends. Where I know you'll be safe."

"Hey Ric thanks for looking out for Elena." I said.

"It's my job right. When will you be back?" He asked.

"When Stefan returns to Mystic Falls." I said.

"Well when you come back I'll have a bottle of bourbon waiting for you." He said.

"Ric I've spent a lot of time with Nik on the road." I said flatly.

"Your right, better make that three bottles."

"I'll hold you to that." I laughed.

"Alright I've got to go, be safe children." I said hanging up the phone.

I slipped down onto my pillow and fell asleep with no worries but Nik.
