I expected that summer to be special, because I was 15---to be 16 in July. I'd finally get my license and maybe, just maybe my family would finally think of me as an adult. I had no idea that by the end of summer, nothing would ever be the same again.
It was July 17th, I turn 16 tomorrow. For my birthday my parents were taking me to a lake I use to go to all the time as kid, Woodlen. It's called that because the whole entire lake is surrounded by trees.
I had a met two boys there, they were brothers. Jason and Jack. The summer was amazing! Us three would go swimming, explore the woods. But, I haven't been to the lake in 4 years...They probably don't remember me, but I hope I see them this summer.
"Maybeline!" yelled my mom from downstairs. "Have you got everything?"
I hadn't had time to pack yet, I was busy posting to instagram to let my followers know I'd be gone for 3 weeks. I got off my bed and went to my closet grabbed shirts, shorts, socks, hiking shoes, flip flops, and my pink and green camo swimsuit. Threw them all in my suitcase. Next I threw in hair brush, toothbrush, hair ties, camera, chargers, and books, zipped it up.
"Yes mom! I'm coming." I yelled back, grabbing my bags and shuffling downstairs. "Hurry Maybe we gotta go" my dad said while taking my bags and throwing them into the car.
We're staying in our family cabin that's with my cousins and aunts and uncle's. I haven't seen any of them in what feels like forever!
The way to the cabin was quite interesting. My mom is a terrible driver I might say, we got pulled over about 3 times. One cop pulled us over twice, one time because we were speeding and the other time because we were going to slow. The other cop finally gave us a ticket of a $250 fine. The scenery though was so fucking amazing (emphasise on the FUCK). There were so many pretty trees and waterfalls.
By the time we got to the cabin I was so excited. I remember this one time Jason and Jack and I we went cliff jumping. I was so scared to jump, and Jack just grabbed my hand and jumped. I felt so safe with him. There was this other time Jack and I pulled a prank on Jason while he was sleeping. We took his bed out of the cabin with the help of my dad and put it in the lake. The next day when Jason woke up he fell off the bed and fell into the lake screaming. The look on his face was priceless. I had so many great memories with those guys, and I can't wait to see them.
After I unpacked I told my mom I was going to go find some old friends. I ran out the front screen door, excited to finally go and see Jason and Jack for the first time in years. I started sprinting towards their cabin where they lived with their mom, and dad. I was half way to their cabin when I saw a blonde head moving inside the house. "Lydia!" I shouted as I ran to the door.
I saw her look up and smile. I was met by her at the door and was picked up and spun around. Lydia is Jason and jacks mom.
"Hey shorty!" she said spinning me around. "I missed you so much how are you?"
"I missed you to! I'm doing great. Where's Jason?" I asked looking behind her.
"You just missed him. They went to town, but will be back in a few minutes. I'll let them know you're here." She said brushing the hair from my face. "Alright. Thanks Lydia!" I started running towards our cabin. "Oh wait" I stopped. "Do you still make your famous Cherry, AppleBerry cheesecake cookies?"
She smiled. "What a coincidence, I'm actually making that for a dessert tonight. Why don't you come over tonight for dinner?" She said. "Definitely thanks!" I said. "When they get here, tell them to make me at the lake will you Lydia?"
"Of course." She walked inside and I ran to the lake.
