I guess I'll have to start you from the beginning. Not that it's much different from the present, aside from the dwindling numbers. The suburbs haven't been friendly, the shadows in particular. They appear as a simple shadow at first glance, but quickly change into a more solidified version of what was displayed on the wall. Some aren't as bad as others, and the others, well...
We try not to talk about it, we being me and the small group I am currently with. As of how manny I can't tell, you never know when someone is taken. I guess you could say our population is based on who you can, and can't see. Right now its population me, and whoever finds this on my corpse.
I'll try to be brief before I tell you my story. My name is Eugene, and I'm going to die down here. Down here in this filthy, corrupted, wasteland. None of us know where we are or how we got here. The only common memory shared between anyone who wasn't born here was of their parents dying before their eyes, and then waking up here. Mine died a few years back.
The clouds were purple, and filled with arcs of light. Then the light started striking people. Their dust scattered the streets and filled nostrils with the smell of death, and my lungs with a burning sensation. I was five then, I am seventeen now. Unfortunately my parents were not taken so quickly. The dust took shape, it made shadows. My parents were consumed by these shadows until they became something far worse
