"I was thinking about where I am going to be going next"Thud.
"I was thinking about how many friends I'll make before I leave."
Thud.
"I was thinking about how many enemies I'll make."
Thud.
"I was thinking about whether I should even bother trying to make friends."
Thud.
The air was pregnant, as if waiting for Artemis to open his mouth again. But he never did. The silence, the serenity, the peace was disrupted as a band of voices could be heard approaching.
"I'm telling you she wants me" Came from one of the voices.
"Yeah, I can really imagine her going up to you at some party and..." his sentence ended when he saw the two figures.
One of a girl and the other facing a tree.
"Hey Dani" said one of the boys.
"Who's your friend?" said Marshall.
"Nice of you to ask me how I am, brother, and I'm sure you've met my friend already."
Marshall turned towards Artemis, who was still facing away from them.
"That blonde girl in your history class, Sally, Susan, something starting with an 'S'?"
Dani opened her mouth to say something. but was cut off by a voice that intoned pure anger.
"I'm not a girl." Artemis growled as he turned around.
"The freak, its the freak!" He exclaimed. "Why are you with the freak? And why are you here with the freak?"
Artemis pulled his hair into a pony tail. the blood dripping from his knuckles after his pounding of the tree left red streaks in his hair.
"What did you call me?" he questioned his voice passive, neither aggressive nor welcoming.
"What, your ears dont work?" Marshall smirked.
Artemis' face lit up, with a look of sheer madness present in his eyes.
"No, I was giving you a chance to change it but since you kindly declined. I get to relieve some anger."
He jumped forward his fist swinging toward Marshall's face but Marshall stepped back. The punch narrowly missed him. blood flew off of Artemis' hand, spraying on Marshall's face. Who instinctively began to wipe the blood. Artemis used this as a cue to move onto the next person while Marshall was trying to clean his face. Stepping toward one of Marshall's two friends he ducked under a swing and pulled the arm taught along his shoulder, pivoted and used the momentum to throw him over his shoulder. walking toward his opponent who was now laying on the floor, Artemis forgot about the last person. And was quickly reminded when a punch landed on his jaw spinning him around and knocking him to the floor. As the person leaned over him getting into position to pommel his face, Artemis bucked lifting him off of him and caught his arm in an arm bar. Screaming the last friend lay on the floor clutching his elbow.
"If I wanted, that would have been broken. But my quarrel is not with you." turning around he looked at the boy who was walking away from him "Or you."
He walked to Marshall who roared then charged at him. He stood there until mere seconds before Marshall would have knocked him over. he ducked the punch Marshall swung and it cleared him by a large gap. but the momentum spun Marshall around leaving his mid section exposed, which was quickly taken advantage of as Artemis pivoted and delivered a round house kick with enough force to not only knock him back but send him stumbling to the floor.
"Get up, I'm enjoying this."
Marshall was in the middle of picking himself when Artemis booted his chest causing him to flip over onto his back.
"Again, I said get up before I make sure you stay down."
the fight was clearly over but Artemis still had plenty of Anger to vent.
He picked himself up expecting another kick and was surprised when none came. standing on shaky legs he looked at Artemis who spun around before delivering a two footed tornado kick to Marshall's midsection. This was received with an audible crack.
Artemis walked towards the near unconscious once bully and raised his foot to stamp on him when he heard a muffled sob.
looking around he soon spotted Dani sitting on the floor, twin streaks of tears paved a path that glittered down her cheeks.
realisation finally dawned on Artemis, he walked to her with the intention of comforting her and explaining that he was sorry for going mad but stopped when he saw the look of horror and fear on her face as he neared. A deep feeling of disgust filled him. He retraced his steps and grabbed his bag before running off and vaulting the fence that separated the back of the school field from a park.
