“Will you turn the crap down?” I yelled at the idiot driving the car.

Rob turned around, “Country music is not crap and this is my car, so sit back and shut the hell up.” I narrowed my eyes at him and reached forward to slap him behind the head. The car swerved a bit and the rest of our dysfunctional group either screamed or groaned.

I leaned forward at his ear, “You turn this shit down or I swear to everything that is holy, I will smack you for the next hour until we get to Nina’s. Rob immediately turned down the music and mumbled “bitch”

I smiled and leaned back into my seat.  We had already been driving for 6 hours and my Ipod had died.  My merry band of idiots contains my cousins Robert, Lisa, Diane, and Chris. The other two were Damon and David, Lisa and Diane’s mates. We were on our way to go move in with my aunt Nina. Nina had recently lost her mate and needed company and support. Nina was my mother’s youngest sister and she was only 8 years older than my 18 years. Nina was one of the sweetest people I had met and the rogue attack that had taken my uncle Paul was shocking and still set our family on edge.

Why then would our parents allow 7 young adults to move hours away from home instead of just moving my aunt to us? My cousins and I are from the Night Pack.  The Night Pack has been a part of our family for centuries. The males in my family have always been Alphas and Betas.

Unlike traditional packs, The Night Pack has learned to hold females to a higher standard. The females, including myself have been trained alongside the warriors of the pack. My aunt Nina does not want to leave her house or the Sky pack. So, we have come to her.

Which brings us back to my current situation, having 7 moody, werewolves in an SUV together, for what seems like forever.  I reach over to Chris’ bag of goodies. I pull out a bag of trail mix and begin to eat. Chris notices me eating his food and growls softly. I smile at him and look him in the eyes and pick out as many M&Ms as I can. His wolf does not appreciate my irritating him or his human. I chuckle and keep going. Chris growls louder and Lisa turns back to me.

“Can you stop Sam? You know that bothers him.”

I smile and shove the M&Ms in my mouth. Then I take the bag, push it to his chest, and lean in to kiss him on the cheek. “There ya go big boy. I love you too.”

Chris glares at me and moves his bag to his other side closer to Damon. I laugh quietly, then try to go back to sleep. I’m not comfortable so I lean closer to Chris. He instantly wraps his arm around me and allows me to rearrange myself. Feeling warm and safe, I go to sleep within moments.

I awoke to the feel of the car slowing down. I tensed and Chris rubbed my shoulder. “We’re here Sam.” I nodded and rolled my shoulders, looking at my phone I saw that I had slept over 3 hours. I got out of the car and immediately sensed the presence of my aunts pack.  As happy as I was that they were looking out for her, I was never the social one of the group, and I preferred to avoid large pack meetings. As I move towards the trunk, Damon grabs my arm and stops me.

“Let’s go see Nina, and then I’ll come back for them.” I could see he was worried for me. Nina and I had always been quite close.  “I’m alright Damon, go to your mate.” He moves towards Lisa but looks back at me examining my mood. I send him a small smile and we head together towards the steps.

It seems like a long time since I had been here for their wedding 8 years ago. As we approached the steps, the door opens and there’s an older woman at the door. Her eyes narrow at us and before she can comment there’s another woman who opens the door fuller, and motions us inside. What a warm welcome, I hear in my mind.  I look over at Chris who smiles and gently pushes me forward.
