Meeting him

Downstairs, I stood behind my family who was chatting away and making Nina smile. I watched my cousins Lisa and Diane. They were vibrant and held people captive with their stories and smiles. They were truly brilliant. As for their mates, while they too, put in some comments here and there, they seemed content with letting them talk on and dazzle my aunt’s pack. Robert and Chris were out of their comfort zones with older women being present but they charmed these women as they do every other female.

I, on the other hand, was more serious with strangers. With my family and pack, I was a tease and loved to mess around, but here surrounded by people I didn’t know very well, I was content to sit and watch. My tendency to observe is strength to me. While I may never be the center of attention, I catch things others may not. Like the way the Luna kept pacing or looking out the window.

I got up and went by her. “Luna?”

She looked over. “Yes Samantha? Is there anything I can help you with?”

While she seemed genuine in her need to help, I could tell her mind was elsewhere and worried.

“Can I assist you with anything? You seemed worried.” I said softly, not wanting to draw attention from her pack but knowing my cousins were already listening in.

She hesitated for a moment. “They should be back by now.” She looked back out the window.

I immediately understood, the males were out, and with this rouge problem, they were probably out hunting or watching the perimeter.  I looked over to Chris and Robert.

“We are going to go for a run.” I announced to the room, putting my hand comfortingly on the Luna’s back. Lisa Diane, Damon and David, you stay and keep watch for the Alphas return. Keep the women safe, this isn’t a safe place for Nina and her pup. I walked by Nina and kissed her cheek. “We will be back soon.”

“Be careful.” She told me sternly. I smiled and left the room with my cousins behind me.

Walking into the forest around Nina’s house I stripped down and changed into my wolf. My wolf loved being free and running, but I felt a serious edge coming from her. She too, was concerned about this area. I saw my cousins come and brush me as they ran in front of me. I rolled my eyes at their backs. We must be a sight running over here. My soft gray fur, surrounded by their massive black bodies. Robert sniffed around us, trying to track the males of the pack. We were wary because while the Alpha knew we were coming, if they were truly tracking rouges, our unfamiliar scents could indeed, attract negative attention.

Robert raised his head and nodded toward the north. He took off running and I flanked him to his left. Chris decided to run near me, keeping m in the center.  It wouldn’t matter how many rogues, I have taken down, I would still be the baby who needs to be protected. I huffed in irritation, and Chris playfully nipped my hind leg. I look back to glare at him and then I hear growls coming from the east. Robert stops and immediately gets into a defensive position. I do the same but keep an eye on his back. Chris comes closer to me but faces the direction where we are being approached. I notice the males at the front, but keep my eye on the ones surrounding us from behind. My tail brushes both of my cousins in warning, and I bare my teeth at them.

Robert growl warningly but makes no move, to show them we don’t mean to attack. Some of them smell familiar, so I’m assuming they are Sky males. I share this fact with my cousins and we deliberate what to do. If they didn’t seem threatening, we would have shifted to tell them, but if we don’t tell them they may attack. As Chris prepares himself to shift back, this smell comes to me. My heart starts beating faster and my mouth waters, I look around frantically to find it and it comes in the form or a brilliant male. My wolf howls inside me, Mate. My mate.

Robert notices my distraction and seems a bit uncomfortable but is content. I take my eyes off of the back to look back to my mate and become distracted with observing him. We make eye contact and I can see confusion and joy in his eyes. Then I sense movement from behind me. One of the wolves sensed an opening and decided to attack. I feel him bite down on my back leg, and I turn and begin to fight him. It’s hard to get him to release my leg because of his superior size, but my training kicked in and I begin to attack his weak zones and get him to release it. By this time Robert turns and pins him down and I jump to replace him at the front. I am injured though so when I jump beside Chris, I whimper when I put weight down on my leg.

My mate visibly flinches and shakes at the sound and murderously looks at the wolf pinned and unconscious by my cousin. Before others, can attack, he barks loudly and they stop. As he begins to approach me, Chris, growls lowly, and I nudge him gently, letting him know that I’m okay and safe with this wolf.  My mate comes closer and sniffs me. Apparently liking what he smelled he licks me right above my shoulder and I tremble. My wolf is demanding I let her out at this time, and I pull her back.  My mate leans down, and licks at my wound. It hurts initially, but he makes it feel better.

I sigh contentedly then realize the situation we are in, still in our wolf forms, and unexplained. I move back from my mate who growls and tries to get closer. Chris stiffens and I bump him once more. Change and explain this Chris. I grow tedious, of being here like this. As I am talking to him my mate has moved back to where he can heal me, either stupidly oblivious, ornot concerned with my intimidating cousins watching his every move. Chris changes and explains the situation to the males, while I do not hear a word, and I am lost to the feeling of my mate, lost in his smell, and captivated by the caress of his tongue.

When I do come back and focus on the situation at hand, I see that Chris has returned to his wolf form. As everyone begins to disperse, my cousins are wary to leave me with an unknown male, even if he is my mate. I stand back up and my mate looks up at me questioningly. I nuzzle his neck then make to leave with my cousins. He growls lowly and comes closer to me, then begins to cover me with his scent. I sigh and let him. He licks my neck in parting then leaves with the pack.

I run with the boys, feeling joy through me. They are hesitant but happy for me, seeing as mates are a gift from our goddess.  When we return to the house, we grab our clothes and I go inside to see and inform my family. Some males have returned and when they see us, they look rightfully guilty.

Nina comes and runs to me. “Are you alright? How is your leg?”

“I’m fine Aunt Nina. It was a misunderstanding.” I rub her arm and let her lead me to the couch. The rest of my group isn’t concerned with my small wound, but more with my scent. Lisa yells and hugs me. “You found him! Who is he? What’s his name?! Is he hot?!”

I flinch and shrug. “I only saw him in wolf form.”

She looks unconcerned. “You’ll see him at the dinner tonight. The whole pack is going to be there. “

I scowl at her and hide my face behind my hair. “Why do I have to go? I’m not in this pack. You know I hate these kinds of things.”

She waved me off completely. “Your mate is there. Come on we have to get you ready.” She grabbed Diane and Nina and then rushed me upstairs. I look pleadingly at the boys who just laugh and go back to the kitchen.
