Bang. Bang. Bang.
I woke up to the sound of doors banging. It wasn't a new experience. My dad came home wasted and angry at least 4 times a week. Now don't get me wrong, my dad is a good guy. He's never been physically abusive and only yells at me when he's drunk. It doesn't bug me to much, as long as he leaves my little sister alone.
I suppose I should introduce myself. My name is Rowina Hastings, but everyone calls me Row. I live with my dad and little sister Serena. We live in a small town in Washington State, our population is 270 and probably not growing. All and all I think I'm a pretty normal teenager; I'm in choir and art, I have a few friends, and I have an obsession with a boyband. Pretty normal right? Then he came to town.

It was an average Thursday morning. I woke up, got Darcie to the elementary school down the street from my own school, and went to my locker. I got all my books put away and shut the door, only to see my friends Violet and Allie coming towards me like they had some big news. Which, they almost always did.
Allie ran up beside me and almost yelled her words, "Did you hear?". I looked at her like she was crazy and honestly she kinda was.
"No, what could possibly be happening in this town?" I replied less than enthused.
"There's moving trucks coming into town" Violet said less crazed than Allie. That made my head shoot up.
"Does anyone know who?" I asked. Considering Violet and Allie got their gossip skills from their parents, I'm sure they'd know.
"My mom said it's some guy starting as the new Sheriff" Allie whispered so we were the only ones to know. It's not like it'll be a secret for long, word travels fast here.
I shrug my shoulders and head to my first hour, math. I inwardly groan, remembering today is a study day for the test tomorrow. It's not that I don't need to study, but a "study day" in math means a social day. Which isn't what I'm looking for. I don't care about the other people in the class, but I need high marks to get the hell out of this town.
I walk into Mr. Dean's class. The second I walk in I feel a pair of eyes on me. I look towards Mr. D's desk and see a boy with brown hair and deep brown eyes. To put it bluntly he's gorgeous. He looks straight into my eyes and smirks. I roll my eyes as the bell rings and head to my desk to start studying. He's been here 5 minutes and I can already tell he's going to be every girls new target.
"Ms. Hastings, would you please come here?" Mr. Dean asks. I get up from my desk and walk to his.
"This is our new student Alex. I'd appreciate it if during this class you showed him around. I'm positive you don't actually need this extra study time." He looks at me expectantly. I sigh and nod my head. I look over at Alex.
"Come on." I motion towards the door and start walking down the hall.
"So, What's your name or do you just go by Ms. Hastings?" Alex asked. I could almost hear the smirk still etched onto his face.
"Rowina, but I'd prefer Row." I answer, trying to keep conversation to a minimum. I can see out of the corner of my eye that he's staring at me.
"Can I help you?" I ask getting pretty annoyed.
"Well Rowina." I cringe. "You're supposed to show me around the school if you don't remember". I roll my eyes and start walking towards the cafeteria. I only need to show him places that everyone uses. He can figure out his classes by himself.
I show him the cafeteria, the gym, and the nurse's/main office. I start walking back to class hoping there's enough time to get a little bit of studying in.
"So, you really don't like me huh?" I look over to see Alex looking straight forward as he walks down the hall.
"I don't know you" is all I reply with. I hear him chuckle a little under his breath.
"Well, wanna get to know me?" I notice he's now looking down at me. I think about the question, but I notice more how much taller he is than me.
"How tall are you?" I ask. He gives me a confused look
"Um, I don't know. Six foot one I think. So, I just answered your question. Do you intend on answering mine?" he asks in a slightly joking tone. I instantly flush red. Why is he talking to me? I'm definitely not the girl he should be going for. I'm only 5'2 with colored blue hair and a little too many curves. Even Allie or Violet would make more sense.
He clears his throat and I realise I'd been spacing out during the entire walk. We were now standing right outside Mr. Dean's room.
"Sorry, I get a little lost in my thoughts sometimes." I say sheepishly.
"It's okay, you make a cute face when you do that." He says laughing a little at the end. If I wasn't already red I definitely was now.
"Oh umm okay. So, uh if you still want me to get to know you talk to me at the end of the day or something." I say sounding much more nervous than I intended. I assumed that by the end of the day he'd have met the preppy girls that would be all over him. I didn't feel like getting my hopes up this early.
I walked back into Mr. Dean's room and put my things away, realising that there were only a few minutes left in class. I pulled my phone out finding a text from Allie.
"Who's the hottie?" I laughed thinking of how she would've seen me when she was supposed to be in class. I quickly type out a reply dismissing anything and press send just as the bell rang. I quickly left and headed to my next class. I noded my head at Mrs. Jones the history teacher. Sitting down in my normal seat I take out last night's assignment. I put it on my desk and look up just in time to see Alex walking in. All around me the Junior class girls start to whisper about the new boy and how good looking he is. I inwardly groan, this is going to be a long day.
