The Love of a Bird

Chapter 1- Fade

Seth's P.O.V.

I looked down at hard, cold, floor. Today was my birthday. My parents were making me stay upstairs in my room while they wrap all my presents. I was turning nine years old today. I was excited because it’s not everyday a kid turns 9. I heard my name call from down stairs and I opened my door and zoomed down the stairs. I was expecting to see about 5 or 6 presents but instead I saw one big, round, gift that was wrapped in green paper. I must say that this disappointed me because I wanted more then one pathetic gift. I looked at my sister and she had a smile on her face.

My sister, Sophie, was 11. She had black hair, which she had inherited from my dad, and brown eyes that she had inherited from my mother. I had brown hair, which I had inherited from my mom and sparkling blue eyes which I had inherited form my dad.

My dad didn't live with my sister, mom, and I. My parents never got married but I saw my dad once a month. My dad told me he would be here, so here he is. My parents are young and still went out on certain nights to hang out with friends. My mom had Sophie when she was 17 and she had me when she was 19.

Anyway, so, not getting more then three presents really made me upset. I looked at my mom and she was smiling. My dad was sitting on the couch giving me a fake smile but he was obviously board. Sophie was texting. I walked over to the gift and tore the first piece of paper.

It was a peek of metal. What could my parents be giving me that is metal? I looked at my family again and my sister just laughed. I was confused because out of all the things I asked for my birthday; nothing involved metal.

I took another piece of paper of the gift and saw another piece of metal. I took off a few more pieces and saw a bowl on the inside. I started to think but nothing in my mind thought of what this item could be.

I even wondered if this was a gift or even an annoying prank. Finally, I just pulled off all the warping paper and started at the animal in the cage. A Bird.

The bird was a parrot and it was specifically an Amazon. But the parrot was small and was most likely a baby. I looked at it but it had it’s head shoved into it’s wing. I tapped on the cage and the bird turned around and looked at me. I smiled.

“HI,” I whispered to the parrot. The parrot just stared at me it’s eyes zoomed I and out.

The parrot was all white but it had a small, tiny, red feather under it’s wing. The color was fading and if I had a camera I would take a picture. Was this bird mine? Did my parents really buy me a pet parrot? Yes, this was my bird, because after all, it was wrapped up and was given to me.

What was I going to call the parrot. Maybe, just maybe, I could call the parrot Hop. It was simple, but the more I thought about calling my parrot Hop, it started to sound pathetic to me. Jack, I could call the parrot Jack, but no, the name was way to casual.

Fade. I could call the parrot Fade. The parrots red wing was fading and this way I would never forget about that beautiful fading wing.

I put my hand out to the parrot like they do in movies but the parrot didn’t come on. I tried to pet him or her but the parrot tried to bite me. I removed my hand from inside the cage and bent down on the floor so now I was at knee level with Fade. Fade just looked at me.  His eye summed in and out.

“Um…Thank you,” I turned to my parents. They just smiled and my dad stood up. He shoved his phone into his back pocket and hugged me. I looked at him. He wasn’t going to leave? Was he going to stay for cake? Did we even have cake? Yes, of course we have cake. My parents aren’t that bad.
