She was one of those 'geek sheek' kind of girls. The kind of girl that made geeks look cool. She was born into a loving middle class family but still she was unsatisfied. She had a boy friend her loved her a lot but... Let's just say if she could have any pick of boy in the school it would most certainly be a football player over the captain of the math team.
One day she was eating in the cafeteria when her boy friend, Conner, came running up to her. He was wearing that goofy grin that over the last couple months she had learned to love. He kept running towards her then all of a sudden he tripped and face planted right in front of her. She giggled as she helped him to his feet. "What's got you in such a rush?" she asked smiling as he caught his breath. Ounce he regained his composure he started jumping up and down with excitement "I got something for you!" he smiled as he handed her an envelope.
She rose an eye brown as she took the envelope from him and slowly started to open it. Ounce she did she pulled out two tickets that read as fallows. 'Harry Potter costume ball – one admittance' she shook her head and handed the tickets back to Conner. "I'm sorry but I can't go." "But Megan why?! You love Harry Potter! Do you know how many people would kill to get tickets like those?"
She sighed "I would have nothing to wear. It's a costume ball I wouldn't have a costume good enough." Conner frowned "what about that costume you wore last Halloween? I thought that looked nice..." She shook her head "It's not good enough for a thing like this. If I were to go I would need a real costume. Not a sweater my grandmother made for a cheesy Halloween dance."
Conner contemplated this answer for a second "how much would a real costume cost?" she thought about this not wanting to ask to much but also not too little. "Umm maybe about a hundred dollars?" Conner nodded and took that amount out of his back pack. It had just so happened that after school that very day he was going to go to the mall and buy himself a new calculator.
After school was over Conner and Megan went to the costume store and bought a real Harry Potter robe. "Alright so now you have a costume we can go to the ball right?" She thought about this again then shook her head "I need glasses to go with the robe." Conner sighed "what about your friend Artemis does she have something you could use?" she smiled and gave him a big hug "Have I ever told you you're a genius?" He smirked "Not nearly enough." For that he received a punch in the arm before she ran off to find Artemis.
She ran up the drive way of Artemis's house and reached the door panting. Maybe not her best idea to sprint all the way to Arrow Street from downtown. Ounce Megan had caught her breath she rang the doorbell and out came Artemis. "Hey Megan!" She greeted her cheerfully. Megan smiled "Hey 'Mis." "So what'd ya need Megan?" Artemis asked smiling. Artemis was always friendly to Megan even though she had the potential to be one of the 'popular' kids with all the money her dad had. Megan rubbed the back of her neck nervously "well Conner was taking me to a Harry Potter Costume ball and I was wondering if I could borrow your Harry Potter glasses?"
Artemis smiled "sure Megan. One sec..." Megan watched as she ran inside to get the glasses. At that moment Megan thought about how she couldn't believe that Artemis had gotten her hands on a real pair of Harry Potter glasses from the films... "Here they are!" Artemis's cry brought Meagan out of her thoughts and she smiled. She took the glasses from her hand "Thanks 'Mis I'll get them back to you next week at school." She smiled "keep them as long as you need. Megan nodded then ran off.
It was eight o'clock when Conner pulled up to 1939 Clark drive. Megan came out wearing her full costume "You ready?" Megan nodded and they were off. When they got to the party everyone gawked at how extensive Megan's costume was. She had a great time showing everyone the real glasses that she was wearing. It was around 12:00 when Connor finally dropped her back off at her house.
She was about to put the key in the lock when she brushed a hair out her face then she gasped. Conner frowned "what's wrong?" "The glasses! Artemis's glasses! I don't have them!" she choked out. The rest of the night was spent searching Conner's car, the dance hall, and the ice cream parlor they had gone to afterwards. Megan finally collapsed on the couch around five. She sighed "It's useless! I'll just have to buy Artemis a new pair of original glasses."
Conner frowned "how would she know if it wasn't an original pair?" "All the props from the movie have engraved into them the character they were worn by." She sighed. The next day Conner and Megan went to the local geek store. A pair of original glasses would usually be $1,000 dollars but they were able to get it for $900. Conner and Megan had to ask their bosses at work to have an advance and even get extra jobs on the weekends.
Three months later they had finally paid it all off. Megan was beat from working a ten hour shift till one in the morning the previous night then getting up a couple hours later for Monday morning. Then she saw her, Artemis. She hadn't talked to her sense she had given her the other glasses. She decided to finally tell her what had happened.
Artemis smiled when she walked up to her. "Megan I haven't seen you in forever! What happened?" "You happened!" she spat. Artemis frowned "what do you mean?" "Those glasses you let me borrow that's what I mean!" Megan said. "What about them? You gave them back to me." Artemis was confused now. Megan shook her head "no I didn't. I bought you another pair of originals to replace yours. Conner and I have been paying them off for three months." Artemis gasped "but Megan... mine were only fakes..."
