“Here, a venti white chocolate mocha frapp. Just the way you like it.”
I looked up at my sister, “Thanks Sophie.” I grabbed the drink that she had placed down in front of me on the table.
“Oh come on sis, don’t be sad, it’s not that big of a deal.” Sophia said taking a seat across from me next to Brooke.
“NOT A BIG DEAL?!” I screamed, attracting some attention from the other people sitting around us at the Starbucks at The Grove. The girls thought it would cheer me up if they bought me some coffee, trying to appeal to the caffeine addict in me, evidently they were wrong.
“How is it NOT a big deal?! My phone is gone. It’s with some random guy I’m probably never going to see again, and all I’m left with is this phone that doesn’t even work in our country!” I yelled shamelessly.
I pulled out the blue cased Iphone and slammed it on the table in front her.
“Shhh…people are starting to stare Spence.” Brooke shushed me.
I looked around and gave an evil glare to anyone who dared meet my eyes.
Sophia reached over and picked the phone up, “So what exactly happened again? Explain it to me. How did you guys switch phones?”
I pouted as I continued to let my eyes wander the room, “Well, I had started jogging backwards coz Brooke over here was trailing behind by like a million miles..” I heard Brooke let out a loud sigh, “When I suddenly crashed into that guy over there—“ I said pointing to the corner of the Starbucks, “—OH MY GOD! It’s that guy over there! That’s him!”
The girls looked over in the direction I was pointing and there he was, the guy from the trail. He was sitting in the corner of the room having a conversation with another guy sitting across from him and was sipping on what appeared to be a large passion tea lemonade. I quickly stood up and made my way across the room to him.
“Hey! Hey it’s me!! Do you have my phone?!”
He glanced up at me. He was wearing a black Nike sweater with a grey beanie over his hair and jeans. He had the same brownish greenish color eyes but there was something about him that seemed different from when I had seen him earlier.
“I’m sorry?” he asked in surprise.
Yes, same Australian accent. It must be him!
“I think we might have accidently swapped phones earlier?” I tried again.
“I’m sorry Miss, but I believe you may have the wrong guy.” He stared up at me, confusion clearly written all over his face.
“No, it’s me! We ran into each other this morning on the trail? Look I really need my phone, so give it back!” I had begun to lose my temper and started to raise my voice.
He raised an eyebrow at me, “Trail?”
“Who is she Jai?” His friend asked.
“I don’t know. I’ve never seen her before.”
“Jai? I thought your name was—“
He abruptly cut me off, “Look Miss, I’m sorry you must have the wrong person, I wasn’t on any trails this morning. I have barely left my hotel room an hour ago.”
I stared at him in disbelief. How dare he lie to me?! I could feel the blood boiling in my veins and had opened my mouth to yell at him when Sophie and Brooke appeared at my side.
“What’s wrong sis? Did you get your phone?” Sophia quickly interrupted before I can say anything.
“Hello again!” Brooke chirped.
