The cool air plays with my dirty hair as I sit on the wet ground, sweaty hands clasping the heavy rifle. Bellamy behind me, facing the other side. Every little sound has me alert, standing up in an instant and not willing to sit back down until Bellamy convinces me everything's okay.

"I think you should get some rest," he tells me from behind, moving over to sit next to me. I remaine expressionless as I stare off into the trees north of us, making sure to catch any movement. "Arlenis-"

"No, Bellamy, okay. I can't afford to sleep. Not with Finn and Jasper out there."

Finn and Jasper set off to look for Murphy who's gone completely ballistic and ran off into the trees. And we can't leave him behind, he's our only way to get to the Grounders. If we lose him, we're done. Finn and Jasper offered to search for him and Bellamy and I wanted to come along but they didn't let us. Someone has to be here when they arrive. Just in case there's any trouble. I didn't like the idea, but it made sense.

"Fine. Just let me know when you get tired." He moves to leave but I stop him with a hand on his arm.

"Wait."

He stops.

"I-I just wanted to say I'm sorry. For Octavia. I'm sure she's safe out there but, I-"

"Thanks. She is safe. She's a strong girl. She can take care of herself."

I nod, tears pooling in my eyes as I stare into his. "And thank you," I whisper. The wind becomes impossibly colder as I finally thank Bellamy for saving my life. I'd be in those caves of the Grounders, being tortured like Murphy was if it weren't for Bellamy risking his life for me.

He moves closer to me and uses his thumb to wipe away the stray tears on my face. "For what?" He whispers, his eyes searching my face.

"For saving me even thought you were convinced I hated you."

He remains silent, his hand never once leaving my face. "I did what I had to do. I couldn't loose you. Not again."

I nod, even though he probably can't really see it. And in that instant, what I was feeling took over my common sense, and I did something I never thought I would do. I kissed him. I leaned in pressed my lips softly to his. He kissed me back, his other hand reaching up to touch the other side of my face. My hands landed on his shoulders. His beautiful, strong shoulders. I broke away first.

Suddenly, we heard movement within the trees and we broke apart instantly with no hesitation. I pulled my rifle up right away and stood in a ready stance. Bellamy did the same, pacing around our small fire to see who it was. The running in the trees became faster, my breath came out quicker, and Bellamy was shouting at whoever it was to show themselves.

What I was expecting was a Grounder. Or even Finn and Jasper.

But who we saw was a surprise to the both of us.

It was Jaha. And he was bounded up, bloody wounds all over his body.
