Chapter 01

“Who would be sending you all these letters Kasey?!” Lying on the table were letters, scribbles saying ‘I’m coming for you.’ and another one saying “I’ve missed you.” My hand trembled and I lightly pressed my fingers over the poor penmanship. For an unknown reason, I smiled. He remembered me.

“Him” I replied softly. “I don’t know Hailey, who could it be?” I didn’t need Hailey to know about this mess yet.

Getting up from the table, thoughts running through my mind. How could he think that after all those years everything would be fine? How did he find me in the first place? Mother swore that she didn’t tell anyone my contact details or even my whereabouts. This is getting all too confusing.

There was also the situation with Zeke, what would I do with him? He couldn’t be around if my past came back. Yes, I knew that Zeke was boring, but why would I want someone that was remotely dangerous. That would only lead to heartbreak and I do not need that right now.

I huffed, walking around the apartment cleaning the rest of the house.

“Hailey, have you sent all those invitations yet? You know there’s only 2 months left, until you are wedded to that fiancé of yours that I haven’t seen for a while.” The last I saw of Jayden was 3 weeks ago, and this surprised me as they were joined to the hip. A couple that could not be happier.

“He’s on a business trip, he’ll be back tomorrow.” She smiled into the distance, just as she was saying “I have booked an appointment at a bridal store in the city, today. You coming along?”

“Are you kidding? Of course I’m coming what kind of bridesmaid would I be if I didn’t. Let’s go get you ready!” I hurriedly pushed her into her room to get ready.

Four hours later, and fifteen dresses later, the perfect dress was found.

“Oh my gosh! That looks perfect on you, the classic ball gown look with the beading and diamonds, ahh. I love the criss-cross bodice. It’s perfect for you, and you’re lucky they even had a dress like this for a wedding so soon!” I cried, feeling a little jealous, that this baby was going to be worn by the most gorgeous girl on earth.

“A princess on her wedding day. Now that’s a fairytale beginning for you!” I smiled, as the compliments kept on coming in from the consultants towards Hailey.

Walking out of the store with a best friend on my right, we did the one thing that we could do best. We went shopping.

It was late night when we reached home. After having a quick dinner, I headed off to prepare to get to bed. Having to head to uni tomorrow for lectures wasn’t all that fun. But that’s what you get when you’re a med student hoping to become a surgeon one day working with the best team there is.

I feel asleep with a smile on my face, dreaming of a face I could never remember.

“Chase! What are you doing? Stop it, put me down now!” I squealed as I kicked my legs frantically and fisting my hands while hitting his back.

He placed me down on the tall grass in the field of the countryside. It was his grandparent’s ranch that he would head up to. It was his 17th birthday, and well I knew I got him the best present he could ever get.

Smiling up at Chase, I could see the silver glimmer in his grey eyes. I poked my tongue, pushed him down so he would fall onto his back and started running away laughing…

*****************

A dream that felt like a few seconds was actually 6 hours long. Reminiscing the old times, all the friends I had, the nearly perfect life. Remembering Chase, the boy next door and the best friend in one.

Sometimes I wondered if something else could have happened to us, if we brought out friendship to the next level. Shaking the thoughts out of my mind. What kind of things was I thinking about, this is Chase we’re talking about the perfect boy, with his chestnut brown hair and big silver eyes, that crooked teasing smile that could win over any mother. He was definitely out of my league in any way possible and I was lucky enough to have a best friend that amazing.

Making sure I was wide-awake and ready for university, I got up and took a shower, a shower that I was much needed. After getting ready, I picked up the keys on the bench and headed towards the door, when there another letter lay  on the mat.

Someone must have slid it under the door this morning or last night. Who?

“Oh stop kidding yourself Kasey, who else could it be.”  I muttered as I fingered the envelope, wondering what else he could have written on the letters.

Running back into my room I stuffed the letter with the others, since the first letter I’ve gotten which was 2 weeks ago, I’ve been getting another one every day. This has got to stop!

“Shit, I’m late.” Sprinting out of the house with my bad in hand, I ran towards the bus stop making it just in time. Huffing as I got on the bus, I waited until it reached my stop.

Walking through the halls swiftly, trying to get into the lecture room before the professor gets there, I had my head down as I turned the next corner, I collided into someone, but before I could register who it was, I heard a laugh. It was Chase’s laugh.

“You have got to be kidding me,” I muttered, as I picked up my books off the floor and hastily walked down the corridor towards my lecture before I obsessed over looking for him. I must’ve been hearing things. Silly me.

A/N: I don’t even know what I’m writing anymore, this is terrible. Well for me it’s terrible, I could write better than this if I didn’t have a cat jumping on the keyboard all morning. Anyways, I now know which way to steer this story.
