For years, Lukas Friar has been numb. He walks with a slight limp because of his knee.
The seventeen year old had been hurt while playing hockey and vowed never to play or watch it again. So now, Lukas was kind of depressed. Hockey was everything to him. Now he just sits around doing nothing.
Except for today. Today he was going to the ice rink because he wanted to skate again. He wanted to try figure skating.
Once he was at the rink, he laced up the pair of figure skates he was renting and headed out onto the ice.
He skated around the rink a few times. He had to stretch first.
He plugged his music into his ears, sticking his phone into his pockets. He skated forward, gaining a bit of speed. He did a jump and he didn't know what it was. He just did it.
He repeated the jump a few times. Then he did some other figure skating stuff. To Lukas, he felt like he was home again. He loved every minute of it.
