–Two Years Ago–
He was skulking through the alleys behind his apartment. Nothing was out of the usual, he'd just come back from a party. The air smelled putrid and had a slight tang of alcohol and waste. The boy took a whiff of himself. Never mind that, it was him. The street seemed restful and dark, dimly lit by a few crooked street lights. Occasionally, he'd hear voices, bouncing from wall to wall until it reached his ears. He paused. A girl's laughter. It was high pitched and wild, ringing in his ears. He winced and paused his walking, briefly closing his eyes. She was probably drunk, but he could hear her around the corner. She was saying things.
"Voices...Voices.. What next, voices?!"
God damn it, she was mad, absolutely mad. He walked closer, his steps cautious. Her laughs quickly transformed into screams of agony.
"Arghhh, voices! Make them stop!" she cried desperately. "Make them stop p-please!" She kept screaming. What was wrong with her? The boy walked closer. He stopped again. He smelled something strange. It smelled like fresh blood and corpse. It was rotten. A stench he knew fairly well. Death. Something was dead or dying with that girl. He took a sickening breath. Was the girl committing suicide or something?
As he reached the corner, her screams silenced and just became untamed cries and sobs. He looked around the corner.
There was a girl, her hair unmanaged and streaked with various shades of blue. Her body heaved as she sobbed. She stood in front of a body. Perhaps that was why she cried. Maybe that body was someone she loved. He could comfort her. Even if she was drunk...somehow. The boy walked forward.
"Hey," he said softly. The girl paused her crying. He came up close enough to her to place a hand gently on her back. "You okay?"
The girl flinched at his touched, slapped him away and turned.
"Don't touch me!" She screeched. Her breath reeked of cocaine and alcohol. Her eyes were bloodshot, her face streaked black with mascara and tears. And her hands...they were covered in blood. His breath hitched. In one hand she held a bloody knife. He stumbled back, startled. His heart raced, his body suddenly roaring with adrenaline. Dozens of thoughts surged into his head all at once. She was the one who killed the man who lay on the floor. Blood stained the ground below him. His eyes widened as the identity of the body revealed itself.
Devon.
He clenched his fists as tears threatened to surge from his already swollen eyes. This girl was a murderer. She murdered the person that he held dearest. Her smile turned venomous."I'm crazy," she sputtered. "And I'm–," she gulped a breath. "I'm not scared of you."
He stumbled back at those words. They were laced with lunacy, echoing in his head, making him feel dizzy, even slightly nauseous.
"What is wrong with you?" He hissed roughly, chocking on a sob that almost erupted from his throat.
"A lot of things," she replied her face dark. Her eyes were glazed as she held the knife in front of her. What could possibly going through her head?
"I suggest you run, boy" the girl finished.
He ran.
