Dark clouds covered the city as the fluorescent lights fought the encroaching darkness. A storm was on the brink of existence as the dark masses continued to blacken and dim. The metropolis was still as loud as ever but it seemed to be eerily silent in one area. That specific street was brightly lit and well taken care of, yet there was a discordant tone in the air that defied the light and belonged with the raging storm that had still not reared its head. This signal of darkness came from a single building, an apartment building to be exact that was modern in detail.
The bright silver of the metal reflected the lights around it as it tried desperately to fight off the gloom that surrounded it. However the higher up the building went the less light was reflected leaving the uppermost regions in complete darkness. As a direct contrast to its top, the bottom was much light midday of how much illumination there was.
The doors glowed with light as they swung open wide allowing the flustered figure to stumble out into the night. Dark blue swirled around creamy white skin as the individual turned to look behind her, letting her ebony ringlets bounce with the sudden movement. As she looked back she vaguely saw her reflection in the door. Her chestnut eyes were wide and only appeared more so thanks to the inky black eyeliner and the smoky eyeshadow she wore. Her dress was strapless but she wore a black scarf around her neck that was large enough to cover her shoulders. Her ears were adorned with simple studded silver earrings which were the only part of her ensemble that stayed put as she kicked her petite feet out of the heels she had been wearing.
A voice called out behind her which just set her into action faster. She hiked up her skirt and took off across the street and into an alley which she followed to a much busier and crowded street. She gained a few looks from the people surrounding her but she did not care, all she wanted to do was get far away from what was behind her. Her barefeet slapped the pavement as she wove between the sea oh humans, sometimes even stepping into the street in places where the throng was too thick.
It was with a sigh that she finally stopped next to a tree in the secluded part of the park. Normally she would be more cautious upon entering this area but she currently too distressed to care. She stood there for awhile trying to catch her breath and clear her mind. A little bit after she had caught her breath that she found herself being forcefully turned around and coming face to face with a very unkempt man who had a strong grip on her wrists and smelled strongly of alcohol.
She didn't even have time to panic over the slurred words that came out of her attackers mouth when suddenly he was gone. She blinked in surprise as she saw a familiar silhouette punch the drunkard who stumbled back before running off. She wasn't in the least surprised when her turned around to show his face. After all whenever she got in trouble his shaggy brown hair and green eyes would be among the first things she saw. No what surprised her was the fact that instead of his normal outfit of jeans and a t-shirt he wore nothing but pajama pants.
She stared into his eyes with sadness as his reflected anger. Finally she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around the man's torso. He sighed softly before returning the gesture and holding her in the embrace with his head resting on top of hers.
The silence was undisturbed before the man spoke up, "So, do you want to tell me why I just got a call from your mother? Did your date really go that badly?"
Slowly the beauty looked up at him before looking back at the ground and speaking, "He was supposed to drop me off at my house but he had other plans."
"Geez, you need better taste in men," the man laughed, "what is this, the third sleezebag this month?"
"My parents set it up," she mumbled as she buried her head deeper into the man's chest. "They want me to get married already, and they won't take no for an answer."
The air was again still as the two just stood there in each others arms. That is until the same voice that had broken the silence before seemed to ring out around them even though it was nothing but a whisper.
"You know, we can give it a shot," the brunette said as he shyly looked away dreading the thought of her pushed him away. After a couple of seconds without a response he turned his head to find her with the biggest smile on her face he had seen in a long time. It was then that she jumped up and with her arms wrapped around his neck gave him a passionate kiss.
They broke apart when raindrops started to fall and while the man held out his hand to walk the her home, she simply twirled away with a light in her eyes that wasn't there before and a laugh escaping her lips with the words, "Lets stay awhile. I find peace in the rain."
