Chapter 3

The next morning I woke up to something death gripping my arm. I opened my eyes and turned me head to see Josephine hugging my arm with her eyes opened and fear in her face. I sat up and put her on my lap, she dug her face in my chest.
" what's wrong baby girl?" I asked stroking her hair.
" I think the boogie man is going to get me daddy! There was scratching under my bed!" She said scared. I sighed.
" Josephine there is no-"
" YES THERE IS!" She yelled. I raise my hands in defense.
" okay okay. Do you want me to check under your bed?"
" uh huh." She said. I put her on my back and walked to her room. I got on my knees an looked under the bed to find killer on his back and his tongue hanging out.
" killer, out now." I said standing up and snapping my fingers. The dog came out and sat I front of me. I pointed towards the door and he walked out.
" see Josephine it was just killer. There's no boogie man here."
" W-what about in the closet?" I walked to the closet, opened it, and looked around.
" nope. Nothing here. Come on let's go brush our teeth." I then carried her to the bathroom. We did our business and brushed our teeth. We then walked to the kitchen.
" I'm going to make eggs for breakfast okay?"
" okay. Can I go okay with my dolls?"
" Of course! You don't have to ask me silly." I said ruffling her hair as I took out a bowl to scramble the eggs in. She then ran off to her room to play dolls. I took out a bowl and took out four eggs. I scrambled the eggs, added milk and small pieces of cheese. I then buttered the pan and waited for the pan to be heated. I then poured the eggs in the pan, washed the bowl and fork and put four pieces of bread in the toaster. While the eggs cooked I grabbed my phone and texted Andy.
' when's our next jam practice? And hey' he soon answered
" hey. And tomorrow, I also have something exciting to tell you guys!'
' haha okay. What time? And at CC's house right?'
' at 1-3 and yeah at CC's'
'Okay. See you then.'
' see ya.' By then the eggs were done, I got the toast put them on plates and served the eggs on our plates. I put the pan in the sink and put our eggs on the table.
" Josephine, breakfast!" I called. I then heard fast foot steps and she was soon sitting in front of her plate smiling.
" thank you daddy." She said as she began to eat.
" no problem." I said as I set her orange juice beside her plate.
" tomorrow were going to uncle CC's house."
" okay." She said with her mouth full. She swallowed. " can I bring me dolls?"
" yeah. Just three though."
" okay." She said with a smile. We then finished our food threw out our plates and put our cups in the sink.
" dad can we go cloud watching?"
" sure let me just go get a blanket." I walked upstairs and opened a closet full of towels and blankets. I pulled out a big dark blue old think blanket and brought it downstairs. I grabbed my phone and two waters just in case we got thirsty.
" ready lil munchkin?"
" ready!" She said excited. We walked out through the back into our decent sized back yard. It was all grass and I had swings and slides set up for her so she can play outside without going to the park. I layed the blanket on to the floor and we both layed down on our back staring into the blue sky, waiting for clouds to come. Soon enough some came.
" look daddy! That one looks like a unicorn!" She said pointing up to the sky.
" oh it does! Look at that one, what does that one look like?" I said pointing to the one next to it.
" that one looks like a witch!" She said scrunching up her nose. I silently laughed as she kept pointing at clouds and telling me what they looked like.
" daddy can I go play." She said siting up looking at me. I sat up.
" of course! You don't have to ask me!"
She then happily got up and ran to her mini sand box and began building sand castles and making her dolls royalty. She then soon destroyed her castles with a little dragon, saying that royalty is to spoiled and mean to have a castle. After that she moved on to the slide. She would climb up the small latter and go down the slide superman style, saying she was off to save the world, meaning an army of stuffed animals sitting in a toy chest, pretending they were trapped in a cage. I took videos and pictures of her and posted then on Instagram. I soon got likes and comments from the guys saying how cute she was. Finally, she moved on to the swing. She sat down and swung herself gently. She swing she had was one of those swings were it had the a cover to block the sun and the seat was like a bench. As she swims she gradually put her feet up and curled into a ball, soon falling asleep. I smiled to myself at the sight and picked her up and brought her inside placing her on the sofa and covering her with a blanket. I made sure the front door was locked before going back to the backyard to clean the mess she made. After I cleaned I went back inside and went into my room leaving the door cracked so I can hear for Josephine. I then picked up my bass and looked at it, examining it's design and structure. I then decided to Fidel around with the strings. So I strummed random notes until I found myself playing Fallen Angels. I can't wait for when Josephine gets older so I can teach her how to play the bass and actually experience what it's like to write sings and be apart of a band. I then thought about when I first joined the band. How nervous I was. They were all so nice to me and each other, I knew i'd get along with them just fine. I put my bass back and went back down stairs and checked on Josephine. She was still in the same place, cuddle up on a ball. I watched as her chest went up and down, smiling at myself, smiling at my beautiful daughter. There was then a hard knock on the door which made me jump a little. The dogs ran to the door and began barking.
" hey hey hey!" I yelled whispered snapping my fingers. The then ran up to me and sat in front of me. I walked over to the door and opened it to reveal Jinxx.
" hey man, what's up?" I asked moving aside to let him in. He walked in and turned to me.
" sorry if I came uninvited, but me Sammi got into an argument and she kicked me out of the house."
" aw man, I'm sorry to ear that. But uh, what happen?"
" well Sammi is on her period, so I tried to get her chocolates, flowers, and even massage her, but she just go so annoyed with me and kicked me out and said 'i need alone tine', so now I'm here."
" wow. She must have a heavy load then." I joked. Jinxx laughed and agreed.
" you want something to eat?" I offered.
" sure." We both then walked to the kitchen and I looked through the fridge and freezer pulling out microwaveable pizza. Jinxx got all excited. I chuckled and put then in the oven.
" so what do you think Andy is going to tell us tomorrow?" I asked joining Jinxx at the table.
" I don't know, I'm thinking tour cause what else is he going to tell us?"
" true true."
" hey where's Josie?" And as that escaped his lips, I can hear Josephine's sleepy voice call
" daddy?"
" in the kitchen honey." She then walked in rubbing her eyes and walking up to me, she extended her arms for me to pick her up and I set her on my lap. She then took a double take at Jinxx and smiled.
" Uncle Jinxx!"
" hey there." He said doing a little wave. The pizza was done so I passed Josephine to Jinxx, which he gladly took her, and took out the pizza's from the oven, cutting the pizza up and serving them on three plates. I took Josie from Jinxx and put her in another chair putting food I front of them, which they didn't hesitate to start eating. I ate with them and when we were done we all started talking.
" Uncle Jinxx why did you come over today?"
" what? I can't come and see my favorite niece in the whole wide world? Huh? Huh?" He said tickling her stomach, she screamed with laughter. I threw away the plates and then everything went quiet. I came back to the table and Josephine looked at me seriously.
" daddy, where's mommy?" She asked this a lot. It broke my heart that she did, I want her to have her mother in her life but her mother didn't want to be. The closest to a mother she has is Sammi.
" we'll honey, mommy had to go somewhere somewhere very important for a long time" I always told her this.
" what does mommy look like?"
" we'll, she was the same color hair as you." I said ruffling her hair causing her to giggle. " she had beautiful blue eyes, and was about my height." It killed me to talk about her because I missed her so much. She had this beautiful smile and laugh, and the greatest personalty. But I will never forgive her for abandoning her only child.
" will I ever get to see mommy?" My eyes began to water.
" I don't know Josephine, I don't know." I answered, my voice cracking slightly.
" hey Josephine, how about you go play with your dolls for a little bit?" Jinxx asked softly.
" okay!" Josephine said running up to her room. I breathed heavily and felt Jinxx's hand come to my shoulder. "You don't have to be strong all the time. You have to let things out sometimes."
" I know, but I just don't want Josephine seeing me upset."
" yeah I understand. Hey, you want to go take Josie out for ice cream? And you look like you can use junk food at the moment." He laughed. I chuckled. Yeah sure. Let me just go get changed. Do you mind getting Josie cleaned up for me?"
" not at all." We both got up and walked up the stairs, Jinxx into Josie's room and me into mine. I got changed into grey sweat pants and a black t shirt. I brushed my hair, grabbed my keys and wallet and walked back to Josie's room, seeing Jinxx brush her hair.
" ready?" I asked leaning on the door frame.
" yeah!" Josephine said happily as she stood up and put on her white flip flops. We all walked down stairs, out the door and into the car where I put Josie in her car seat and me and Jinxx sat in the front. I drove to her favorite ice cream shop. We got out and walked inside, not a lot of people were there at all.
" hello and welcome! What can I get you three today?"
" two medium and one small cup please." I said
" sure. Flavors?"
" Joeseph what do you want?"
" chocolate chip mint please!"
" the small a chocolate chip, one medium vanilla with chocolate syrup, and Jinxx what do you want?"
" one medium coffee ice cream." He said.
" sure thing one second." The short lady said walking to the back. Jinxx was reaching in his pocket for money, but I stopped him.
" I got this man."
" oh, thanks." The ice cream came and I payed the lady and we went to to sit at the table in the corner. We sat down and ate our ice cream with happiness. When I was done I threw my cup away and checked the time, 3:00. Time is flying. I sat back down and waited for then to finish there ice cream. I cleaned off Josie's vanilla filled face and then we left. We returned back the to house and lounged on the couch, watching spongebob, all this kids watches is spongebob.
" wanna help me cook?" I asked
" okay." Me and Jinxx quietly got up and walked into the kitchen.
" what are you going to make?"
" I was thinking meat loaf and mash potatoes."
" alright. Do you want me to do the meat loaf?"
" yes please." I said chuckling. I took out the meat for Jinxx and all the things her needed, he then went right to work. He copped onions into small pieces and set it to the side. He then took eggs and adobo into the meat and mixed all together, soon adding the onions.
" wow, you sure k ow what your doing Jinxx. You cook for Sammi?"
" yeah most of the time. She tries to cook but, it doesn't come out to great." Jinxx chuckled. I laughed. I boiled the potatoes and skinned then, then crushing them adding milk, then mixing them again creating mash potatoes! I sat them on the stove while Jinxx put the meatloaf in the oven. We cleaned up the dishes and the table.
" did you put adobo in the mashes?" He asked.
" no." Jinxx then grabbed the adobo and put some in and mixed it.
" you haven't lived until you tried mash potatoes with adobo." Jinxx chuckled. I laughed.
" I put bacon bits in the mash potatoes for Josie, is that alright with you?"
" yeah that's fine." Jinxx said. We then sat at the table waiting for the meatloaf to be finished cooking.
" tomorrow were just going to practice old songs Andy told me." Jinxx said. " he said it's going to be good practice for the new song he's been writing."
" oh okay. I forgot to ask you, are you sleeping here tonight?"
" I don't know. If Sammi kicks me out again I might end up back here, if that's okay with you."
" no I don't care." We kept talking until the meatloaf was done. Jinxx took it out and began slicing it and seeing g it on three plates, I served the mash potatoes.
" Josephine, dinner!" I called. She then came running into the kitchen and sitting at the table. I put a plate in front of her and she quickly started eating. Me and Jinxx soon joined her.
" this is really good!" Josie said excited. Me and Jinxx smiled. When we were done we put our dishes in the sink.
" Josephine do you wanna take a bath now so we don't have to do it later?"
" yeah!" Josephine said running off to the bathroom. Jinxx chuckled
" She's so cute." He complemented.
" heh, thanks." I said " you can just chill here we'll only be a couple of minutes."
" okay." He said plopping on the couch. I walked into the bathroom to see Josephine patently waiting siting on the toilet bowl.
" your suck a good girl Josephine." I told her. She beamed and giggled. I started the bath and went to go retrieve a towel. I came back and she was already in the bath. I chuckled an turned off the water. I sat on the toilet bowl washing her hair and her body. I then drained the tub and wrapped her in her towel. I brought her to her room and clothed her in one of my old big shirts and pj shorts. I brushed her hair and dried it. We walked back to the living room and Josephine ran ahead as sat on Jinxx's lap. Jinxx was eating cloud with a chance if meatballs, which was Josephine favorite movie. Halfway through Josephine fell asleep though. So I carried her to bed and tucked her in. I walked back into the living room and Jinxx stood up.
" we'll I'm going to see if Sammi will let me back into the house. Thanks for letting me stay man." Jinxx said getting his shoes on and grabbing his keys.
" no problem. If she kicks you out again you can come back." I chuckled. He laughed.
" thanks. Well see you later." He then walked out. I showered when he left and flopped on the couch and watched TV. About an hour into my show there was a knock at my door. I laughed to my self, got up and answered. Jinxx stood there with his bag of stuff he needed and his guitar.
" heh, come on in." I said stepping aside. He chuckled and walked in.
" so what he sat this time?" I asked flopping on the couch, Jinxx doin to same.
" we'll I walked in, then she wanted to cuddle so I cuddled with her on the couch for a little while And then I said is the period monster gone? And then she got offended and kicked me out again. I showered packed my stuff told her I lives her and left."
" dam man. Well your lucky this couch Has a bed inside"
" yay no couch!" He chuckled. I pulled out the bed for him and game him pillows and blankets.
" thanks."
" Jinxx said. No problem. The remotes are on the arm of the couch."
" okay. Night." Jinxx said crawling into bed.
" night." I said turning off the light. I walked into my room, hopped into bed and fell asleep.
