Chapter 1
Alana
“Ding, Ding” I wake to the stupid bell that rings every single morning the vampires ring or the head council rings. The head council are the people who run our community; they keep us in order and all that blah, blah nonsense stuff about order. Today I think about how we have this big test that the council makes us kids take to make sure we are learning all the right and if we fail we…. Well nobody really knows what happens to the people that fail.
I stare at my bedroom for a while letting my thoughts drift to random things like how I wish could change it so it’s not so dark, I hate dark colors, and also how today I will get picked on because of my stupid half vampire half human. See I don’t have fangs or anything like that I have the speed of a vampire and that’s it. My mom was still human when she had me but my dad was a vampire. Yeah you heard me was. The council ‘got rid of him’ because he was telling too many bad things about the council. Which these bad things are very true but they deny it. Man I really hate the council they are very mean and I would know because my step loser of a dad is on it and all he cares about is him and my mother and his little boy which is my half-brother same mom different dad. He is 9 and his name is Braden and he gets whatever he wants, whenever he wants and my mom doesn’t care. Gosh I’m sounding so selfish like them. I shiver at the thought that I was beginning to be selfish like them.
“Alana wake up you’re going to be late for school!” I hear my mom say, and I awake from my thoughts immediately and hop out of bed, put on some clothes and put on “my face” that’s what my parents call it when I put on my make-up. “Bye Mom” I scream as I rush out of the house and go to the bus stop and wait. Then I hear “Al” and turn around to find my best friend Bella calling to me. Al’s my nickname and she calls me that ever since I went to spell my name on my paper for school and was in a hurry and wrote Al instead of Alana. So that’s how I got my nickname. She approaches me and asks “Are you ready for the big test today?”
“Nope what about you are you ready?” I ask
“Nope same as you. Well if we both fail we will find out what happens to people who fail.” She says
“I don’t think that’s a good thing Bella” I say
“Maybe it isn’t but oh well. How was your night last night?” she asks
“Okay I guess; I was mainly studying the maze and everything for the test and listening to my parents on how proud they are of Braden and how is already studying for the maze test.” I say. The bus pulls up and that’s the end of our conversation.
We live in this big maze werewolves on one side vampires on the other. We have to know the maze in case we have to evacuate our city. So we have to know the maze.
Bella and I get on the bus and sit down for the long bus ride to school that’s ahead of us. It’s really quite because of the test.
When we get to school the council is already there and looking at some of the changes that have happened over the year that they haven’t been to our school. I don’t really care for the council and some of their judgments. I walk by really quick going to my class then I feel a hand on my shoulder and turn around to see one of the councils men grabbing me , and he asks “ why are you in such a rush to get pass us?” and you could hear how much venom he had in the way he said the words. “I’m trying to get to class I like to be there early.” I started to stutter.
“Well I’m pretty sure your teacher won’t mind if you’re late to class.” he says
“May I please go to my class I have to study please let go of me.” I say to him.
“Excuse me I will keep you as long as I want we’re the boss of you you’re not the boss of us.” He says to me.
“Well I would love to stay and listen to your boring conversation but I have more things to do. I snap at him and then to make maters worst my step father comes up behind me and says “Hopefully all that studying last night will help you because you are going first and the test starts now. Lucky you.”
Get the students out here now!” says a council man
