she didn't smile. she gave him a cold hurt look. "I hope you don't mind but I read some of it. your an amazing author, but your story is kind of depressing."
"it isn't a story," she snapped grabbing the paper from his hand "this actually happened. and if you don't mind I would like to.."
"wait a minute," he interrupted. he just stood there staring at Addy, sitting on the beach goose bumps on her arms, shivering and one tear falling down her perfect cheek. he didn't know what to do so he did the first thing that came to mind. he hugged her. after a minute he let go. "I'm sorry" he said seriously. solemnness spread across his face.
"why in world is this total stranger helping me? hugging me? I don't even know his name!" addy thought.
"thank you" she said out loud."i think I will head back home now."
"would you like me to walk with you?"
"no" addy said defensively
"see you tomorrow then?"
"I don't think so," addy said still keeping her serious face.
"I do" he said back "hey I didn't catch your name" he yelled after addy who was now walking along the shore to her house.
But she did not answer instead she stayed silent taking her time to trot sadly home.
"who was that" she thought to her self again, "why was he helping me? he's kind of cute though" she seemed shocked that that thought crossed her mind "no. you will not think of something like that at a time like this. pop just died. it is NOT a time to be thinking of a total stranger who you barley know but was still willing to hug you." so that was that. addy had settled her mind. he was cute but it was a thought for a later time. right now was a time to morn.
even though that is what addy was determined to do, all day her mind kept thinking of the strange, wet, adorable boy on the beach, who was so kind to hug her even when he knew nothing about her. that night as she was laying in bed a thought crossed her mind, "I wonder if pop would like him." and with that she fell asleep.
the next morning the sun shone brightly on her bed warming the comfotors. but it wouldn't have mattered if the sun shone or not because addy was already up and moving. she was showering and getting ready to go back to the beach. "I am only going to tan myself." she thought "and if the boy is there, so be it."
"darling where are you going?" her mother asked as she tossed an apple and a vitamin water into her beach bag.
"to the beach mom. I wont be gone long. only an hour or two."
"just be home in time for dinner."
and with that she was off. this time she ran down the beach. the sand scorched her feet as she flew past all of the tourists. when she found a place that suited her she set up her towel and began to put on lotion.
"you missed a spot" a familiar voice said behind her.
she smiled " i'm sure I will be fine."
"if you say so it gets really hot down here.""thank you captain obvious, anything else I should know before I face the harsh California life."
"just doing my duties ma'am, that should be all for now," he said jokingly in a deep voice. " hey you never told me your name" he said now back to his normal voice.
"you first"
"but I asked first"
"and I wont tell until you do. so spill it"
"Gage. if you must know my name is Gage."
"i like it" addy said sincerely, then laid back down on her towel.
"hey wait a minute! you have to tell me your name before you go back to hibernating!"
"its too late. my hibernation is already in process" she added in a fake snore to make it more authentic. he hit her and complained a while longer.
"hey gage! wana' hit the waves!?!" another boy handsome young man yelled from the water.
"that would Brian" gage said to addy, "I will find out what your name is tonight when you come to the bonfire tonight at 10. until then" he said kissing her hand. addy snored and then hit him in the chest.
"good bye gage!" she yelled after him
"goodbye Stanger with no name!!!" he yelled back.
