It was a Sunday night and I was doing my last minute coursework along with my mum nagging me to go to bed because I had school the next morning. After about an hour my mum screams up the stairs saying “Melody will you go to bed for goodness sake!”
I sighed and packed all my books into my bag and got my school uniform out ready for tomorrow morning. Oh yeah by the way my name is Melody but my friends and family call me Mel (unless I’m in trouble) and I have ginger hair which is styled in a side fringe, my hair swings down just below my shoulders. I have quite a lot of spots dotted around my face. And I am fairly tanned. I have big hazel eyes. And I am 15 which means I’m in year 10 in school. People say I am the splitting image of my mum.
In the morning I was woken up by my alarm clock beeping repeatedly accompanied by my mother screaming “Mel you better be awake!” at me from the room next door. I lied there and breathed deeply while rubbing my eyes to wake myself up. Just as I sit up my mum barges in and says “Mel are you not up yet? Your brother is ready, so why aren’t you?” I sat up and looked at her and said still half asleep
“I’m not a morning person!” and then flopped back down.
“If you’re not awake in 10 minutes I will not be impressed!” she said firmly sort of implying get up now! I stared at the ceiling and then jumped out of bed suddenly. I chucked my uniform on and then straightened my hair before applying a bit of mascara and light pink lip gloss and a bit of cover up on my spots. I looked at myself in my mirror and trotted downstairs to the kitchen, to my delight my brother was sat there eating his cereal.
He looked up at me and I knew what was coming “Who you going to see, You still got that crush on Raymond?” he said teasing me.
I looked at him sharply “NO! why would I still like Raymond? And I am not going to see anyone thank you very much!” I spat at him in a flurry of words. I turned my back on him to get my breakfast and I could hear him trying not to laugh. I just ignored him and sat down and ate my breakfast quickly. I ran to the car so I could sit in the front seat! Me and my brother always have a war over who gets to sit in the front.
I was sat in the front seat for about 2 minutes before I heard a demanding bang on the window. I looked around to see my brother trying to open the door that I had locked. He was screaming “Open the door. I am the oldest I get to sit in the front!” I looked at him and grinned like a chaser cat and shook my head. Suddenly the driver’s door opened. I turned sharply to see my mum about to climb into the car.
“Nick will you just get in the car!” she said impatiently.
“B… but Mel is in the front!” he said trying to get my mum to get me out of the front seat.
“Will you just get in the bloody car already? Do you want to be late?” she said getting frustrated now.
“God Nick why can’t you be like me and get in the car when you’re told.” I said cheekily and he gave me mega evils, but I didn’t care. He finally gave in at sat in the back. All the way to school he was kicking my seat. We got to school and we both went our separate ways, waving back at my mum in her rusty car. I met up with Lilly, Kelly and Emma. We were all chatting and gossiping when the bell went. Me and Kelly went off to form seeing as we were best mates and in a form together, while Lilly and Emma were in a form together seeing as they were best friends. But we are all mates together.
In form I was discussing my morning and my rude waking up with Kelly when I got a text. I pulled my phone out and checked who it was from, it was from my mum it said: Hi Mel, you forgot your house key. I have dropped it in reception for you. Make sure you get it before the end of the day because I will be at work when you get home. Love Mum xx
I got up and went over to my form tutors desk and said politely “Sir could I please go to reception to get my key?”
He looked up at me and said “of course you can.”
I walked away slightly skipping and ushered Kelly to come with me. I think Mr Moore must have been watching as he sharply said “Kelly sit back down! I am sure she can manage without you.” I frowned at her and walked away down the dark corridor. I don’t know why nobody ever turns the lights on!
When I got down into the reception and waited in the line. I was behind about 6 people so I started talking to this boy sat in the chair at the side. He had brown hair that was spiked up with gel, I think he had a retainer in seeing as he had slight lisp and that is what Kelly had it when she had her retainer a few months ago. He was fairly pale and had no spots, well apart from the odd one or two, he wasn’t the best looking, and actually he was rather nerdy looking. I asked what his first lesson was and he pulled out his planner and said “umm… I think I have music.” I looked at his planner and confirmed this.
“would you like me to take you to your lesson?” I asked trying to sound friendly and he nodded. The bell went just after I had got my key and I ushered him to follow me.
I turned to him as I led him towards music “What was your name again? I don’t think you mentioned it.”
He turned to me and said quietly “my name is David.” I smiled at him to confirm that I heard him.
“Here you are, you line up there. See you later David.” I pointed and waved as I walked back on my tracks towards maths and to my surprise Kelly was stood watching me. I smiled and she shook her head at me. “What?” I said trying to sound like I didn’t know what she was on about.
“You know what I mean!” she said smiling at me “So… who is he?” she looked at me deviously. I looked at here trying to make out I didn’t know who she was on about.
“Who?” I said trying to act rather confused.
“That boy, the one with the spiky brown hair!” she said leaning into me and laughing.
“Oh. Him? He is just a new boy, I just showed him where his first lesson was.” I told her not looking into her eyes.
She looked at me “You like him don’t you?!”
I looked up from the floor and said in a high pitch voice “No, Don’t be stupid! I only just met him!”
“Yes you do don’t you!” she squealed in my ear.
“What gives you that idea?” I say trying to stay casual.
“Well your voice went all high” while raising her eyebrows “are you lying? Your voice always goes high when you lie, and you know it!” She said empathising on the end part. I looked at her and smiled.
