The new chapter

One of the most exciting parts of making it on the high school team is choosing the number that you will be remembered by. I chose the number 7 for 2 reasons. The first that they didn't have 23 and the second is because 7 was the number I wore when I was placed as a starter for the first time so it had a lot of meaning to me. Our team had training every Wednesday and that means another opportunity to show the coach what I had in myself. Now I got to play the game 3 times a week which is amazing but I had to wait 1 week for the school team to train. That week didn't take too long for it to come to Wednesday and at lunch I had training. We had to start of with the dreaded suicide run but we had to do it 50 times and that takes most of your energy away so I had to really find the small bits of energy that was left in me. After 10 gruelling and painful minutes we had finally completed the suicide runs. With every player they have a weakness and mine happens to be offence especially shooting. Every player was getting 3 pointers in, one after the next after the next then there was me who every time as you guessed keep getting airborne. After training my coach walked up to me and stopped my walk in the process. She said "I know you are not the best player there is with shooting but your goal is to a least get 5 3 pointers in the last training and 1 in any game. That is all that I'm asking you to do, nothing more and nothing less". After that she walked off and I headed to my last period of the day. After I got home from school and went straight to my bedroom and on a large piece of paper wrote my goal. Underneath the goal there was one of my favourite quotes by Walt Disney which read " All of our dreams can come true, if we had the courage the pursue them". That quote is 100% true and right now, I'm no where near close to achieving this but what I was taught that is you start to quit or give up that will turn into a habit and I do not want it to become one of mine. The next morning at school in the daily notices there was an announcement saying that our first game was next week against the Grizzlies. They were a strongish team and I was determined to make it to the grand finals but first in order to get a step closer we must defeat the Grizzlies first. Friday came around and I was excited to play like normal and I got to be a starter again but this might be my last week starting as the injured player is allowed to play again next week so I might as well make this one count a lot. In this game I scored 10 points, 3 rebounds and 4 blocks. I had almost beaten my personal best for points. After the game, I asked my coach if he wouldn't mind staying back a bit and giving me a few pointers on how to shoot better. I was at the stadium 1 hour after the game but I didn't mind and I hope he didn't mind either.
