After Joe's parents came and got Lily, we quickly called the police. 2 minutes later we heard loud sirens and saw bright red and blue lights.
"They're here." I said as tears started rolling down my cheeks.
Joe put his arms around me and pulled me into a tight hug. "Demi, please don't cry. We're going to find her. I promise."
"I just can't believe this is actually happening. This just doesn't feel like real life to me." I said as I choked on my words.
The two officers finally got out of their car and walked towards Joe and I. I pulled away from Joe's arms and wiped my tears getting ready to talk to the officers. I didn't really feel like talking about Mia being kidnapped and being asked all the questions. I just didn't want to relive it. But I'll do whatever it takes to find our daughter. I just want our daughter back.
"Good afternoon." One of the officers says to Joe.
"Good afternoon sir." Joe says back.
"You called about a kidnapping?" The officer asked as he pulled out his pen and notepad.
"Yes. Our 4-year-old daughter." Joe replies as tears welled up in his eyes.
"Can you tell me what happened?" The officer asked shifting his eyes from me to Joe like he wasn't exactly sure who to ask.
Joe and I looked at each other. Joe nodded at me gesturing me to go ahead.
I took a deep breath before I explained what had happened to the officer. "I was pushing my twin daughters on the swings when I saw my husband, Joe," I said as I gestured my hand towards him, "sitting alone on the bench on his phone. I went over to ask him what was up. I told the girls that I would be back soon. Then Joe and I walked over to the sandbox where our other daughter was and we couldn't find our daughter anywhere."
"So you left your 4-year-old twins alone? In the park?" The cop asked me as if I was stupid.
"Are you implying that this was my fault?!" I asked defensively.
"No, I'm just saying it could have been prevented." The cop replied.
I crossed my arms. "So you are saying its my fault!"
"Demi, stop. Arguing with the cop isn't going to help us find Mia. It's just going to make things worse!" Joe barked at me.
I stopped. He was right. But still, how could the cop have said that to me? I was obviously distraught over the disappearance of my daughter. My eyes were so red and puffy from crying and my makeup was smeared all over my face. It was pretty clear how upset I was and this cop was just being rude. I hope they're not like this the entire time. I hope they help us find Mia.
"So your daughter was last seen in the sandbox?" The officer asked while writing something down in his notepad.
"No, our other daughter said she walked over to the slide and that's the last she saw her." I replied.
"And how old is your other daughter?"
"She's 4."
"Would it be okay if we asked her a few questions?"
I looked at Joe. I didn't know what to say. How terrifying would that be to all the sudden have your sister disappear and then go to the police station to be questioned, all at four years old? I didn't want to do that to Lily. She'd have such a hard time understanding what was going on.
"She's actually at my parents' house right now." Joe replied.
"Well would you mind having your parents bring her here so we can ask her a few questions?" The cop asked.
