Song: Devil Within by Digital DaggersI made myself at home
In the cobwebs and the lies
I'm learning all your tricks
I can hurt you from inside
I made myself a promise
You would never see me cry
Til I make youI spent the night at Eve's house. I wanted to make sure everything was alright, especially with the Eason and Alexis. Now that they're a little older, they understand a little more.
The next morning, I called Nancy to let her know I couldn't come in for my shift today after what happened yesterday. I explained to her what happened between my sister and brother in law and since she knew Eve, Nancy was more than understanding of the situation.
Everything seemed to settle down between Rick and Eve later in the afternoon. Though they barely spoke to one another, I could sense that they both regretted the fight. But I wondered what they were arguing about.
What did Rick do that made Eve so furious?
Their relationship wasn't any of my business, I know that. I wasn't going to press Eve to tell me if she didn't want to.
Before dinner time, I decided to go home. I was reluctant to leave them but I couldn't hang around forever. It was best for them to sort it out themselves.
I finally returned home after a long weekend. I checked my phone just in case I missed a call but nothing. Henry didn't ring me today. He must be busy with work, I told myself. For dinner, I prepared some ramen noodles with eggs and vegetables. As I ate and turned on the news channel, Lily walked through the door.
"Hey, you're finally back," Lily exclaimed, setting her groceries on the kitchen table. "Where were you all weekend? I was worried. You were with Henry, right?"
I didn't confirm nor deny her question, only smiled.
"I knew it," she said, placing a few pasta boxes in the cupboard. "Now that you have a boyfriend, don't forget you have friends too."
"You know I would never," I assure her.
"So did you guys..." Lily trailed off, raising her brows with a curious look.
"What?" I asked until I figured out what she wanted to say but didn't say. "Lily! Of course not. You know me. We've only been dating for a few weeks. Besides, I didn't spend the whole weekend with him. I was at Eve's last night."
"I was just curious," she replied jokingly. "But between two lovers, it's bound to happen. Alright, I won't ask anymore."
Lily trotted off into the bedroom and in the meanwhile, I tried to focus the news anchor and what he was saying, but Lily's words wouldn't leave my head.
It was bound to happen. Does she mean what I think she means?
I suddenly recalled Henry's message again and immediately shook it off. Nothing happened last night. I'm sure nothing happened. Henry was a gentleman.
Throughout the week, Henry only texted me once, asking me how I was. I replied with a simple message since I didn't want to bother him too much. From what Adam and Lily told me, men didn't like clingy women.
It rained all Wednesday from morning to night. Business was slow. Not much happened. We did get a special order of white tulips in but since we were out of tulips, it was quite disappointing. I also called Eve, to ask her if everything was okay. Although she adamantly persisted it was, I knew things weren't which slightly worried me.
On Thursday afternoon, I made up my mind to visit Henry at his workplace. He might have been busy but I wanted to see his face for just a second. It'd be quite interesting to see him in action again. As I walked to the hotel, I pondered on what I should get him for his birthday. Maybe a tie and a tie bar. Is that too common?
