"Everything, and then some." The man replied.

"How about your name for starters?" I asked haughtily.

"Deucalion. And yours?"

"Caroline."

"Ah nice name, German correct? Meaning 'free man'. But you're far from free. Isn't that right Caroline?" Deucalion asked.

"How would you know? You aren't free either. So I don't see how you could talk!" I growled at him.

"Oh I can't but I sure could help you with your.... predicament."

I looked at him intently.

"How?"

"I can give you answers."

"How do I know I can trust you?"

"You don't. However I can give you this." He said handing me a small old book like thing. I hesitantly took it from his veiny hands.

"What is it?"

"Read it and find out." He said walking away.

"Wait how do I find you?"

"You'll find a way, see you soon Caroline." He said walking farther and farther away.

I just turned around and then turned back to look at him wanting to ask a question, only he was gone.

I turned back and flitted to my house, I opened up the book which I found to actually be a leather bound journal, specifically my father's leather bound journal.

"What the heck? Why did my father have a journal? And how does it start in the 1400s? He said he wasn't born until the 1500s! Why would he lie?" I asked myself.

I turned the page, he had written in these everyday, but only one page, like summaries. This only went up to 1499. What about the next couple centuries? I looked at the back and nothing. I closed it and held it spine up, why is this thing so damn dusty?

I licked my finger and rubbed it along the spine, something caved in, I rubbed again.

'V. 1'

Volume One? Are there more? I need more, I need to know everything. What am I? How did I get like this? Why am I like this? Why me?

I ran out of my room and to my dad's I needed answers, now.
