Avery made his way down the stairs to the backyard where garden bed was. The roses were nowhere to be seen in the chilly winter morning. The fountain was empty for the season. Avery made his way over to the garden seat and sat down. He looked down at his hands they were shaking. He looked up when he hear a woman calling his name...
Avery woke up in a sweat. Who was that woman? She came to him every night in his dreams. The long copper hair, her blue eyes, her smile. It was like she knew him. Avery felt like he knew her too but every time he told Mel Rosa about her, she laughed. "Don’t be silly Avery I’m all you need in this world."
Avery got the feeling that Mel Rosa just waved his thoughts off. The truth was Avery had no idea who the girl was. He knew that she was older than he, but where and when did he know her from? In fact there wasn’t much that Avery remembered at all.
He had woken up at the bottom of a cliff face with two broken legs, a broken collar bone and no memory. Mel Rosa was the one that had found him. Her short cropped blonde hair and blue eyes were the first thing he had seen when he woke up. She told him that she lived nearby and that his name was Avery. "I have known you since we were little. I used to watch you from my mother's window"
Avery had been living with Mel Rosa now for five months but not much of his memory had returned. For three months he has been dreaming of her. Her face haunted him. He wanted to know who she was. But Mel Rosa kept him a prisoner in this house. Whenever Avery said he wanted to leave she advised him not to. That no one in town knew that he had lost his memory and knew something would be wrong if he didn’t recognise anyone.
Avery rose from his bed. The heat from the night before still lingered in his room. In the distance he heard Mel Rosa Leave the house. He walked over to his closet and pulled out a clean shirt, pants and shoes and began to get dressed.
Luna was in the garden. The winter had set in and the flowers were all in hibernation. She sat down next to Jamie on the garden chair. She looked at her brother her brown eyes were reflecting in his blue ones. She began to fight back tears. "He’s never going to see the roses bloom in the springtime. He is never going to smile; he'll never have a wedding day". Jamie put a hand on his sister's shoulder. Luna closed her eyes and let the tears fall down her face. She could see him, Samuel he was falling, falling and calling to her. She held out her hand she couldn't reach.
Luna jerked awake. The same old nightmare had visited her yet again. Luna took a deep breath. The sun was just starting to rise. She groaned as she pulled her covers off herself. She sat up and dangled her feet over the side of her bed. She looked at her calendar on her wall. Today. Today it had been six months since Samuel had... no. she wasn't going to cry.
Luna put her head in her hands, she could get through this. Just like she had for the past six months. The pain in her chest was all too real. But she was a strong woman. She could do this. She had to go back there just as she did on the same day of every month. Luna rose from her bed. Discarding her sheets and walked over to her small mirror.
Her copper shoulder length hair was a skew. Her brown eyes were red. And her night gown was ripped. She would have to buy a new one. She picked up her brush from her dresser and began to brush out the knots. She cursed as she found a big one. She began to pull her hair up behind her head and tie it into a bun at the back of her head. Mel Rosa had been to her room already and left a bowl with water in it with a cloth.
Luna began to wipe down her face. She wiped away the sweat and dirt and placed the cloth back in the water. She looked at her ripped night gown and took it off. She walked over to her small wardrobe and pulled out a red and black laced dress. "No not this one", she placed it back inside and pulled out an emerald green dress. She pulled it over her head. It fell to her knees and had a v neck line. Luna closed the door to the wardrobe and walked back over to the mirror.
She sighed. She would pass in public she thought. She pulled out her jewellery box, opened it and from it she took a butterfly hair piece. It was the same colour as her dress. She turned her head to the left and right. She sighed and placed in on the right side of her head just behind her ear. It was perfectly in line with her bun. There was one thing missing. Her grand mamma’s necklace. She went back to her jewellery box and withdrew her necklace.
This was a family heir loom. It was a single Irish four leaf clover set in gold on a small and thin gold chain. She opened the clasp and placed it around her neck. She closed the lid to her jewellery box and examined herself in the mirror. There she pasted. Jamie would be there by now. She had to leave to meet him there.
Luna walked over to her bedroom door. She placed her hand on the handle and opened it. It was time to visit the place where Samuel died.
