Angel's POV: "Flutes, harps, lutes
We sing our godly song
Filling the earth with joy
Rendered to only our ears
Come, dear girl,
Fly into the light
We shall guide you, survive you
Till dawn's light..."
I woke with a start in my bed, covered in sweat, and shaking.
I had my same nightmare, the one I had been having for the past year. The angels were singing to me, telling me to come with them.
I rubbed my eyes and slowly turned my head to look at the clock, which read 7:02 AM, Friday April 4. Today was the day. I would have my initiation ceremony and be an official member of the Angels. I would decide what type of job to do, too.
There were 4 sectors of the Magical City. Angels, Lunars, Solars, and Earths. I was born into Angels, since my family descended directly from the Archangel Gabriel.
The Angels were all descended from some sort of Angel, whether it was a minor or major one. I was descended from a major.
Angels had... Unusual powers. Some of us that came from major angels eventually got wings, which I had. They could also throw lightning and create tornados. The others who didn't have wings, and came from minors had powers like creating storms and thunder.
The Lunars were connected with the moon. They were strongest at a full moon, and weakest a new moon. They could control water, tides, Earth's gravity, and solar eclipses. The more powerful Lunars could even go up and visit the moon colonies.
The Solars were connected to the sun. They controlled warmth, the solar system's gravity, wind, and solar eclipses. The stronger ones could also go out into space.
The Earths were connected to the earth (Duh). Some of them could move rocks and stuff like that with their minds, and other mastered plants. And by plants, I mean they can make an ordinary sunflower grow as tall as a 100 story sky scraper, or make vines get as thick as boa constrictors.
Normally, kids are named names related to their sector, or old family names. My full name is Angel Ariel Raze. My middle name is Ariel because she's also an Archangel, and Raze is a variation of Raziel. A kid in Earth might be named something like Lily, but a kid in Solar might be named Sunny. I also had two cousins named Michael and Raphael.
Angels was the best, and most important sector of the Magical City. The higher up people here could actually contact the Archangels, and sometimes visit. After my initiation I was going to try to become someone who actually talked to Archangels.
First I needed to get up, though.
Fern's POV: "Fern! Come on, it's initiation day!" My twin brother, Cay, yelled to me. "We're gonna miss it! I
groaned and batted the air, not really caring right now because I still wanted to sleep.
I finally rolled myself out of bed, hoping Cay wouldn't yell anymore and blast my eardrums out. "Fern-" "I'M COMING!" I yelled at him. I stumbled into the bathroom and brushed my teeth, then made my plant grow a bit higher. I mean I was from Earth, after all.
I walked to my closet and picked out a green halter top, short shorts, rainbows, then french braided my hair and weaved some lilys in, because they were my family's sacred flower.
I trotted downstairs and sat down at the table across from Cay. Like all children getting initiated, we were sixteen.
We were fraternal twins but he might as well be a guy version of me. We both had the tan skin, chocolate covered eyes and luscious brown hair of Earth people. The only difference was that he was taller, even though I was older.
Most people from Earth had brown or black hair. There were even some redheads… but almost no blondes. The only people who were blonde were the ones who got their hair dyed or whose parents had transferred over from another sector, like angels or solars. The lunars hair tended to be snow white, or starlight and/or moonlight colored, which was basically white that shimmered or totally shimmering.
When I was younger I had secretly hoped my hair would turn blonde, but now I'm proud of it.
"You ready?" he asked as I took a bite from my cereal. I nodded. "Yeah… I'm kinda nervous though." I replied. He nodded. "I can understand that. I am too." We continued eating in silence for another minute, until I finally asked the question that had been on my mind the whole time.
"You're not going to switch sector… are you?" I asked. He looked up at me in surprise. "No, of course not. I mean, the other sectors are interesting and all… but imagine all that work you'd have to go through! You'd have to get your Earth powers drained, then get new powers put in, then take classes on how to use them… Also, if you switch you basically get disowned by your family. I don't want to have to go through all that, and I don't want to live away from you." He said, and came over and hugged me. I hugged him back, not wanting to lose him.
I felt bad for all the new transfers we got each year. I couldn't imagine getting disowned by my family, and I definitely couldn't imagine changing sectors. Also, most transfers weren't welcomed or trusted by their new sectors community until after a while. It must be hard…
And that's why I was staying.
Luna's POV: "Luna, wake up!" My mother said softly to me, looking beautiful in her shimmering dress. I rolled over and looked at the clock. 7:15 AM. How she managed to look so great this early was beyond me.
"Why?" I groaned, shoving a pillow on my head. "Because! It's initiation day! It's a very important day, and we get to see your sister, too!" she exclaimed. I mumbled a half hearted "I'll be up in five minutes", then rolled back to a half sleep state.
Ten minutes later I got out of bed and walked into the bathroom, wincing at my reflection. I brushed my teeth and walked into my closet.
After another ten minutes of trying on clothes (I was really good at wasting time) I finally decided on a blue cami, see through white shirt, jeans, navy blue pumps that matched my jeans, and I put my long white hair in a side braid.
I was lucky, I had a great sense of style (usually), and I got my mom's amazing moonlight shimmer colored hair. I know, we had some weird hair colors, but it would make sense if you grew up with hair. I heard the Earths had a hair color called soil though, so don't judge us!
I walked downstairs to see my mother frantically making breakfast, trying to remain calm. "Well, look who's not stressed out," I said with a smirk as I sat at the table.
"Oh, don't remind me!" She said as she handed me a plate of pancakes and bacon. "Are you nervous about seeing Celeste?" I asked. My older sister, Celeste, was one of the higher up people in our community. She was a… Lunar colony representative, which I hoped to be.
A Lunar Colony Representitive, or LCR, was someone who spoke with the Lunar Colonies and for the Lunar-Earth council. She actually got to go up on the moon and speak with them! I know it doesn't sound that interesting, but if you were a Lunar it would. I was sooooo jealous of her. "No… well a bit." she admitted. I shook my head. "Don't worry! It'll be fine. She is your daughter too, after all." I laughed. I finished my breakfast and put my plate in the sink, then glanced at the clock. Holy crap, it was 7:45! We had to be at school at eight to get ready for the ceremony. "Mom! It's time!" I exclaimed as I grabbed my purse. She grabbed the keys off the counter and we ran to the car.
