An Unexpected Invitation

Tomorrow's the night; Semi-Formal. All of my friends are oddly obsessed with this night. Except for one of my friends, Abbey. We've only been friends since the beginning of the year, but it feels like forever. She gets me like nobody else does, we have the same taste in music, movies, comic books and other really nerdy things. But she's an amazing musician. She plays guitar, drums and bass guitar. I bet she can sing, too, but she always says she can't.

Dre and Taylor have been texting me non-stop about going, so I figured if i needed to go I might as well invite Abbey. I texted her as soon as I got home from school that day.

Cole: Hey Abbey, I was wondering if you wanted to go to semi with me? (just as friends lol) xx

Abbey: Uh, maybe. I need to ask my mom, but yeah.

Abbey: She said yes, not sure what I'm going to wear tho.

Cole: Just wear casual stuff, that's what I'm wearing.

Abbey: Okie I'll see you tomorrow at school xx

THE NEXT DAY

I was just walking in the hallway on my way to family studies (my only class with Abbey this semester) when I felt someone hug me from behind. I turned around and to my surprise it was Claudia, we're friends, but, she's been acting kinda funny lately. She is talking to me a lot more, and she gotten more touchy-feely with me. I don't really LIKE her in that way, but, it doesn't bother me
I give in and hug her back. I pulled away and nodded goodbye. As I turn around, I see Abbey taking a few steps towards me.
"Hey" I say with a smile.

"Hi" she replies.

I noticed that her eyes weren't as joyful as they normally are.
"What's wrong?" I ask.

"Well, I thought you were going to semi with me." she looked down at her feet, wearing her black converse as always, with sad eyes.

"Yeah... but as friends right?"

"Oh... right. Sorry. I'll see you later." She looked back up at my blue eyes, then quickly turned away
