The following classes of species seen in Mai-Otome X Capcom as it follows:

-Humans

Humans don't possess any natural magical abilities, and are physically inferior to demons. Most humans are no match for even the weakest of demons, although some who have trained for years and who possess appropriate weapons and equipment, such as Devil Hunters or the Order of the Sword, are able to combat and defeat demons. Some humans are shown to be able to cast magic, but it seems that this ability comes from using demonic power.

Other humans attempt to overcome their inherent weakness by obtaining demonic power through complex rituals: Arius (who summoned Argosax with the Arcana in Devil May Cry 2), Arkham (who became a demon by killing his wife in Devil May Cry 3), and most of the Order of the Sword (who performed the Ascension Ceremony to become artificial demon-human hybrids in Devil May Cry 4) took this approach.

Despite these drastic differences, and the general enmity between the two species, humans and demons can fall in love and mate, producing natural human-demon hybrids like Dante. Sparda and Eva are the most prominent example of this, though Bradley and Angelina Hagel go through a similar romance in Devil May Cry: The Animated Series.

In DmC: Devil May Cry, set in Limbo City, humans are being controlled and brainwashed by the Demons. They appear to be easily fooled by the outside appearance and cover-up of some of the influences such as Kyle Ryder, Bob Barbas and the Virility soft drinks. The exceptions are the humans belonging to The Order, and organization led by a Nephilim, Vergil and a human, Kat.

In Mai-Otome X Capcom, humans and Otomes are one in the same, but with some prominent differences due to having nanomachines.

-Otomes

Otome are elite female warriors, employed by important political figures as bodyguards. In a certain light, they could be seen as supersoldiers, due to their vast powers and skills - however, this is contradicted as the Otome appear to lose the majority of these abilities when not equipped with their Robes (in an unorthodox fashion as they are also technically magical girls). Nao explains to Arika the military strength of any country is measured by the number and quality of its Otome. On the planet Earl, where the series takes place, only one place exists where Otome are trained: Garderobe Academy in Windbloom Kingdom, where the ancient technology powering Otome is kept.

Otome receive their powers from nanomachines injected into their blood which granted peak-human strength and limited healing abilities. However, said nanomachines are vulnerable to the prostate specific antigen (PSA); acting as an antigen, PSA causes an Otome's body to develop immunity against nanomachines (and any future injections), rendering her permanently powerless. Therefore, Otome cannot engage in sexual intercourse with males. In addition, some Otome's are also vulnerable to other viruses (i.e., C-virus), and if they contacted it, it will cause them to mutate into a J'avo; an Otome who catches any viruses will cause them to lose their powers and their nanomachines are consumed by this said virus. Jake Muller's blood is said the main vaccine for the C-Virus.

The Japanese word "otome" (乙女 otome?) means "maiden", which can be considered to the Otome's forced virginity. This is, however, not the way it is spelled in the original title of My-Otome (舞-乙HiME Mai-Otome?), which only uses the first kanji of the word. In written form, Otome are called 乙HiME (-type Highly-advanced Materialising Equipment).

**Meister Otomes

A Meister Otome is an Otome who is a qualified graduate. This is proven through the design of the GEM, which is different from that of the students'. In English, Master brings about the meaning 'a person who is good in what he/she does'. Therefore, it can be said that a Meister Otome is an elite Otome. However, Master also means "Meister" in German. Meister Otome also receive a title based on their GEM that can be inherited by passing on the GEM, for instance Lena Sayers and Arika Yumemiya are both referred to as the Blue Sky Sapphire.
