11-year-old Lily Evans was bouncing in the seat of her car as her parents pulled into the parking lot.
"Mum, Dad, come on, I'm going to miss the train!" Lily whined. She had gotten her letter a few weeks before and immediatly was excited. Severus had told her all about Hogwarts, although Petunia didn't like it.
"Oh, it's probably just a phase" Lily thought, though she was slightly worried. What if she and Petunia weren't as close as before? What if Sev had been lying to her and it's really not the great school that she thought it was?
"Oh don't be silly," she thought, "Severus would never lie to me like that. I really do hope that I'm in Slytherin or Ravenclaw though, he made both of them sound great. Just not Gryffindor." Severus had said all sorts of things about Gryffindor, not all that she agreed with, but still, it was a house full of "Idiotic and daft people who didn't know when to back down and fight their own battles." Lily didn't see anything wrong with fearlessness, but she certainly didn't want Severus to hate her like he hates Petunia. That wouln't sit well with her parents.
Lily's dad pulled her trunk out of the car and found a trolly while her mum took the ticket and examined it once more.
"Lily, dear, are you sure this is right? I've been here quite a few times and I've never heard about Platform 9 3/4. It sounds very unlikely."
"Yes, mum, for the thousandth time I'm sure, Sev said so." Lily said defiantly. "It said so on his letter too."
"Alright then, lets go catch up with your father," And off they went into Kings Cross station, in search of Platform 9 3/4.

"James, love, keep up, we're already running behind on schedule," said Mrs. Potter.
"Coming, mum" James groaned, shuffling his feet. Roderick, his owl (named after Roderick Plumpten from the Tutshill Tornadoes) was screeching loudly in his cage, drawing attention from nearby muggles. It isn't like James wasn't excited for school, he really was, but on the other hand it was school. His parents were very wealthy, that is true, but they didn't want to get a tutor so that meant elementary school for young little James. That had taught him his lesson. But from what he heard, at least Hogwarts was fun in some sorts, and he already knew very much about it.
Soon enough the barrier came into view and James saw a girl, about his age, standing next to two adults who looked like her parents. She had a large trunk on a trolley like him, except he had an owl and she had a cat. When she turned around, James stared and almost gasped. She was very pretty, with flaming red hair that was held back slightly by a headband, and vibrant green eyes that shone with excitement. She was jumping on the balls of her feet, not being able to stand still. But, upon further examination, James noticed that she and her parents looked very confused. 'They must be muggles" James thought. The girl turned around a bit more and she spotted James, seeing that he had the same things as her. She bounced over to him, leaving her trunk with her parents.
"I'm waiting for my friend, Severus, he was supposed to show me how to get to the train," she lowered her voice and leaned in, furrowing her eyebrows a bit, "you are like me, aren't you? You know, magical?"
"Oh how could you tell," said James, "Was it the trunk or the owl that was so obvious?"
The girl raised an eyebrow at this, but decided not to start a fight, so she stuck out her hand for him to shake, "I'm Lily Evans, and yes it was obvious I was just being cautious, but do you know how to get onto the platform?"
James shook her hand, a firm good shake, he noticed, which was surprising coming from someone so small and delicate looking, and said "I'm James Potter, and of course I know how to get onto the platform, I'll show you." By now Mrs. Potter was watching them intently, seeing what would happen, and the Evans's were watching them curiously. James pointed towards the barrier and said, "You have to run through it, and once you're through-"
"Run through it! You must be joking me!" Said Lily shrilly, "We've only just met and now you're trying to make me run into a wall. Very funny." She said defiantly, thinking that she was being pranked more and more by the second.
"I'm not joking! I'll even go first if you want me to,"
"Fine. Do it then," said Lily, her head held high. "Show me that you're right and I'll forgive you."
So off he went, since they had 10 minutes until the train left, and took his dear sweet time, until his father nudged him ahead making him stumble, which did not go unnoticed by Lily, who giggled, which James scowled at. Lily stuck her tongue out back at him. James broke into a run and ran through the barrier, his parents following him through.
Lily's parents gasped. "Lucy, love, what was that?" Asks Lily's dad, Dan.
Lucy smiled knowingly, her beautiful dark curls framing her face, "Magic." She said simply, looking excited, her dark hair waving around her face as she jumped, and ran through the barrier without a second thought.
Well that was odd, thought Lily, but she followed anyways, pushing her trolley through, her dad behind her. When she got to the other side, though, the black haired boy, James, wasn't there. After searching around a bit and standing in awe at the train, she bid farewell to her parents, (her mum getting very emotional as if she were remembering something) and boarded the train. As she was pulling her trunk up she saw Severus, who helped her up and they found a compartment. Lily was quite mad at him for not meeting her, but she knew his parents disapproved of their friendship. She waved happily out the window at her parents, and said goodbye. The train started with a jolt, and Lily pulled back through the window, turning back to Severus, and they started talking about Hogwarts and what it would be like. Just as they were once again getting to the topic of houses, James Potter came around and found them, this time with two boys near him, both blonde looking, the one on the left lean, tall, and more mature looking, the one on the right shorter and plumper.
"Hullo, Lily, I suppose this is the boy who ditched you?" Inquired James.
"Excuse me, who are you and how do you know Lily enough to think it's alright to waltz into our compartment like you own the place?" Severus said coolly.
"I'm James Potter, and I helped her get onto the platform which was supposed to be your job, by the w-"
"Stop it! Yes, you helped me, but that gives you no right to insult my friend! He was just running late, that's all, and his parents don't like me very much-"
"I'm starting to see why" he muttered.
Lily chose to ignore this and continue, "Because I'm not from this world. It really isn't a big deal,"
"Why does it matter that you're muggle born?"
This was when Severus decided to jump in. "Why do I need to prove myself to you? Why don't you leave us alone?"
"I'm sorry, I didn't catch a name"
"Severus. Severus Snape. And I would like you to know that-"
"Oh, now I get it, you're a Snape. Very blood prejudice, they are. Very brave of you to be friends with the likes of that, Lily"
"The likes of what?" By now the two other boys had left and James was sitting in the seat across from them. "And it's Evans, to you, Potter" she added, glaring at him.

They had been on bad terms ever since, pranking and yelling and ignoring each other until a wonderful day in 7th year when all the hatred went away.
