Chapter 1 (:

I stood there – staring at the large brick building that is said to be my new school for the next 2 years. I was standing under the cold rain with my purple umbrella. I could feel the rain hitting the back of my long, brunette hair. I blinked my dark brown eyes as I held tears back – I missed my mum... And dad, and my friends. But this should be a better year... I hope.

I started to gently walk up the stairs that lead me to 2 big glass doors with the word Whiteridge Academic Academy nailed to the long gold handles. I pushed on the heavy doors and walked through, taking my umbrella down with me. I could hear my red Converse’s screech as they hit the lino floor. I walked slowly over to a desk that said Administration, careful not to slip over. A women in a black high waisted skirt and a grey top and a black cardigan with what looked to be 4 pairs of black leggings to keep her legs warm and a pair of black peep toe shoes. She greeted me with a wide smile, showing off her bleach white teeth.

Administrator: Hi. I am Kelly, how may I help you?

Nora: Hi. I’m Nora. I am an exchange student from Australia. I think my parents sent you paperwork and stuff over the holidays? I was accepted last year in September?

Kelly: Oh yes! I have been all prepared for your arrival. We told your parents that you will be happy here. I know you mother sent your books here during the holidays so you didn’t have to bring them over on that dreadful 14 hour flight. We have set you up with a timetable and a locker number and key. Your books and everything are in your locker.

Kelly started to stand and walk around the desk.

Kelly: Here, walk with me and I will take you to your new class and get your books from your locker.

Nora: Oh, okay. Um… Do I need to like, sign something?

Kelly: Oh no dear! You already signed everything we need you to sign.

 Nora: Oh, okay.

I was so nervous. I hoped I would fit in to this school – everyone’s heavy American accent was a lot different to my Australian accent. As we walked down a long corridor, we passed several classrooms filled with intelligent students and many wall length lockers that were clean and sticker-free. We finally came to a stop in front of a locker.

Kelly: This is your locker. Here is the key.

She passed me a copper coloured key with an orange ribbon.

Kelly: Every student gets a different coloured ribbon. It helps us find them if they get lost. Oh and you can design your locker any way you like on the inside. But the outside must stay clean.

Nora: Oh. Okay.

I opened the locker and unfolded my timetable to see what I had. Maths – okay. I got out my pencil case, a maths textbook and a notebook.

Kelly: Okay, here is your room.

We turned around and I stared at the oak door. It was right in front of my locker. Ehh… We walked closer towards the door. The butterflies in my stomach were flying around so fast I felt sick.

Kelly lifted her manicured hand and knocked on the door.

A teacher: Come in!

Kelly and I walked in. I lingered behind her, too embarrassed to walk in.

Kelly: Students, please listen here. Meet your exchange student, Nora. She is from Australia. I hope you make her feel welcome.

I slowly walked in and smiled. About 20 eyes looked up at me.

Teacher: Oh hi Nora. I’m Mrs Parker.

Nora: Oh. Hi.

My new teacher looked about 30. She wore jeans and a white shirt with a black vest.

Mrs Parker: Oh. Um… Well, Christian, can she sit next to you?

A boy lifted his head. He was amazingly gorgeous. Dark brown hair with blonde streaks. My heart melted further in my stomach.

Christian: Um. Sure.

I strolled down the aisle towards the spare desk next to Christians.

Oh why did he look so familiar?
