Soulmate AU: The first time you see color is when you first see your soulmate.

-----------------------------

The waves lapped up and tickled my feet and as fast as it came it left leaving me with a chilling sensation. I walked along the shore enjoying the feeling of the water and sand. It was calming. Wandering the emptiness with the sound of the waves crashing on the shore in the dim light of the moon and stars, I was able to clear my mind of everything. This wasn't something I do often, however with how hectic everything has been going with studies and planning out my life this was needed. I stopped walking and just stood there staring off into the horizon. My, I assume, white summer dress was blown back as my hair danced in the wind. A sigh escaped me as my body relaxed and a smile crept upon them.

Staring into the dark distance, a dash of loneliness crept into my mind. Everyone around me has been discussing soulmates. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised going to an all girl's school; girls meeting their soulmate and falling in love has always been a common discussion. There's rumors saying that when you meet your soulmate color is added to the world. Those of us that haven't met our soulmates are only told what "colors" look like. That the apple we hold is really a bright, shining red which was described as a warm, lively color almost; the water that was licking at my feet was really a crystal blue which soothed the soul and brought comfort. The idea of seeing colors was exciting to me, I've always wanted to know what certain paintings looked like when they were in full view, I want to experience these colors myself and what overwhelming emotions they may stir. However the idea of meeting my soulmate was terrifying. Who was this person? When would I meet them? Would I truly instantly fall in love with that person? What illogical nonsense is that? Staring into the bright white light of the moon I lost myself and all sense of time.

The sudden noise of crunching sand distracted me. As I turned, I was surprised to be met with an unfamiliar sensation. A young man stood there staring with just as much surprise as me. His body shimmered from sweat and he was panting ever so lightly. His presence isn't what surprised me though, it was his bright deep colored eyes and colored rimmed glasses. It was the warm bright lights from the building behind him that welcomed me home. It was the color he brought to me. This man, my soulmate.

"Uh!" He stammered, his face flushed with a bright warm shade I wasn't sure how to describe. "Do you... also..."

I nodded. "Colors..."

The young man began to squirm a bit uncomfortably, nervously, unsure of what to do now as he stumbled over all his words, creating a string of sound.

I couldn't help but laugh loudly causing him to stop his movements. It was cute how he was acting making me blush as well. He made it contagious. "What's your name?"

He stood to attention quickly. "R-Ryugazaki Rei!" he sputtered out.

I smiled and stepped towards him as I brushed my hair behind my ears. "(l/n) (y/n). A pleasure to meet you, Ryugazaki-san." Ryugazaki was still stiff and it seems he wasn't about to make conversation anytime soon. Mentioning the soulmate thing might be a bit much right now. "Do you come here often to... jog?"

"Y-yes! Actually! I jog and go to the pool to practice sometimes!" he stuttered slightly as his shoulders slowly began to drop.

"Oh? You swim? For school or leisure?" The distance between us was now a mere arm's length which made him seem a bit nervous at first but I was hoping he would relax after some more talking.

Ryugazaki told me about the swim club he's apart of at Iwatobi High School, how he use to be apart of the track team, his swimmates. It seems that once you got him talking, he calmed down a bit and got more comfortable. I listened intently to him enjoying the sound of his voice more than anything. It was soothing and his stories were entertaining. I can't recall the last time I was this relaxed.
