Before Dawn

Quiet.

That seemed to be the only word to describe the small village of Clinton on the early morning of November 10th, 1906. The sun had yet to make an appearance leaving the air frigid and the sky dark, wind ceased to exist in that moment and everything was perfectly still.

The many people that live here were all still asleep, bundled up in quilts to their noses trying to get as much rest as they could before having to get up and work a long hard day. All were asleep...except for one.

In a small wooden house, past the kitchen and down a small hallway, a girl was sitting up in her bed drawing in an old tattered journal. The girl went by the name Daisy Abbott, an incredibly ordinary girl who did ordinary things. She was not a princess or even a farmers daughter, just a nurse who was still learning her trade.

A groan from the bed across from hers grabbed her attention and made her body tense, looking over she saw the familiar figure of her friend and work partner Thomas Tremblay whos long legs were dangling over the foot of the bed. Daisy giggled at the sight, thinking of the countless times he's complained about how there has never been a bed to fit his height of 6,3 and she had been there to laugh and tease him every single time. Thomas cleared his throat and turned over quickly going back to sleep making Daisy sigh in relief. If she had been caught awake by him so early in the morning she would be given a scolding from Thomas for not getting enough sleep and how it effects her health and what not, not surprising coming from a doctor. She didn't mind these scolding's in the least. He only did it because he cared and she sat through every one with a smile and amusement swirling in her eyes.

The scratching of her pencil filled the otherwise quiet room as the sun rose above the horizon, its golden rays sneaking over the roofs of houses and into every dark crevice. Sunlight eventually flooded the room in a warm ethereal glow. Daisy sighed and threw the quilt off of her legs and shivered when her feet touched the cold floor boards. Gingerly she stood up and stretched, cracking the joints in her back and shoulders before walking over to the still sleeping man. Her night dress fluttered around her ankles with every step and she stopped at the side of his bed studying him before reaching her small hand out and softly shaking his shoulder

"Thomas, its dawn, you have to get up if we're going to leave on time" She said softly.

He replied with a grunt and slowly turned over and she quickly left so he would not see her in her night clothes.

His blue eyes opened and stared at the ceiling for few minutes before rising out of the warm bed to start the day.
