why?

Dan still had no idea why he was stuck in this large, white place. Its not as if he was completely insane, he thought he was perfectly normal! There were so many other people here who were insane and phycho. Compared to them, Dan was no more insane than any other human on earth.

he remembered as a child he was always called weird and even insane. he was bullied constantly for being so weird and abnormal but he didn't believe these bullies. he did, however, go home in a flood of tears most nights because of these unkind words. whoever said, "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt." clearly had never had to deal with bullies.

its not as if Dans parents really cared about him crying as they were too busy drinking alcohol to realise that their child was in pain. he never bothered them as one time he interrupted their drinking and was beaten until he was unconscious. he did not want a repeat of this traumatic incident so he spent most of his time in his room, alone.

spending too much time alone meant he developed a strange habit of talking to himself. he tried not to do it in public but sometimes his mind just wandered too far and before he knew it he was muttering to thin air about Robert Patterson and flying narwhals.

this may be the reason he was admitted to the mental hospital. also the fact he had been diagnosed with severe depression. he would constantly think about suicide and cutting. he would sit in the corner of his room and slice at his arm with his pocket knife hoping to rid his sadness through the trickling blood.

his parents admitted him at once and were probably extremely happy to get rid of their accidental insane son. they were most likely dead from alcohol overdose or something like that which might explain why Dan hadn't even heard of them since he was 12 years old.

he had grown to believe that he was completely normal and the only reason he was kept here in the mental hospital was because his parents were dead. he had much more to learn about himself and his sanity...
