Alan and I leaned closer and closer, leaving us only centimeters apart from our faces. I pulled away before anything could happen, he does have a girlfriend and I have to respect that. I sighed and smiled lightly and suggested we head on back outside, so we did.
"...And then we all fell into the pool and had to buy new phones..." I heard Christian tell his story to Shay and they both laughed away, I myself laughed too. Alan on the other hand, was silent and seemed embarrassed at what almost came to be in the kitchen.
We took a seat on the couch outside and continued through the night, telling jokes, stories, bagging on people and talking about music, anything to lighten up the mood. Alan seemed to be back to normal and I was pleased, to be honest. I know him and Shay will end forgetting about me and Christian soon, even though they guarantee they won't.
"So, Christian, based off what little miss Rhianna told us, you have a guitar collection?" Alan asked. Christian smiled and gave him a "Yes sir!" They got along quite well and had a lot in common, which is quite uncommon in this area. I smiled and decided to go sit by the pool and stick my feet in the water. I got up off the couch and walked over there by myself and stood by the blue water, staring at my reflection. I jumped at the sight of another person appearing behind, causing me to almost fall in.
"Woah there, kiddo. Watch it." Shay laughed as he caught me. I faced him with arms crossed and frowned. He did the same to me and I couldn't help but laugh and scold him for calling me "kiddo". I sat down, and pulled my knees to my chest and I found myself staring at the crisp blue water, once more. Shay joined me.
"You know, I saw you and Alan earlier in the kitchen. Nice dance moves by the way." I continued staring at the water, but this time with eyes wide and face burning. I covered my mouth with the crook of my arm and smiled. I am probably the most embarrassing person ever. "I saw how you pulled away, too. That's a pretty hard thing to do, especially when you like the guy and he's dead center in front of your face." I looked over my shoulder to him and spoke. "Well, he does have a girlfriend, so it's only proper to respect that." He smiled and stuck out his fist for a fist pound, so I did as directed and gave him a smile. I looked over to Christian and Alan, they seemed to be getting ready to leave, which surprised me.
"Anna, I'm taking Alan next door to show him my guitars! Besides it would be a great time to get stuff, I feel like sleeping here tonight. So we'll be back soon!" I gave him two thumbs up and they left. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Alan's ginger head poke through the sliding door. "Take care of Shay, will ya, Anna?" I laughed and gave him a thumbs up as well.
"Is he gone for good?" Shay asked and I nodded in confusion.
"Good. Now I can say this without discretion. Alan hasn't been able to shut up about you. It's ridiculous!" I couldn't believe my ears. "About me?" he nodded. "In all honesty I prefer you over Maddie." I smiled and blushed. I shook my head and laid back.
"How so?"
"Well..." he laid next to me, using his right arm as a head rest and his left placed on his stomach. "... First off, you're actually really beautiful. Not going to lie." I flicked my wrist in mid air and thanked him. "And that's the second reason, you're funny and you don't try hard to be, and last, but not least, you're just better for him. I haven't seen him this happy, not even when he's with Maddie, I mean I know we've only just met a couple hours ago but, he's into you, dude!" I laughed at him calling me dude. I flopped to my stomach and held my face in my hands.
"You think so?" I turned to Shayley, expecting a "No! Ha gotcha" or a "He only likes you as a friend."
"I know so, Anna." I smiled and looked at my hands. "Hey, how's about you guys go with us?" I looked up at Shay.
"We don't fit in your hotel room, I mean there's already six people-"
"No, dummy, I mean on the road with us!" my eyes grew wide and I thought of the idea. Cruising on the road with Of Mice. Being with everyone, being with Alan and.. Maddie. Oh, man. I frowned and let my face fall on the concrete.
"I can't, not with Maddie around." I said with my face still against the floor.
Shay let out a small laugh. I picked my head up from the floor and turned to him. "What are you laughing at punk?"
"Nothing, nothing. But c'mon, go with us!" He begged, don't get me wrong I'd love to go, especially since I'll be able to go with Christian. "Please?" he added and shot a goofy smile. I laughed and agreed. We stood up and I was embraced in a long hug. "Uhh.. Shay?... You're squeezing the life out of me." I was gasping for air and was finally released.
"It'll be fun, I promise. And besides, I could use some company, after all, I look at you like a close long time friend." He nudged my shoulder and I nudged back and smiled. Snowball came by me running into the inner backyard, causing me to shuffle back and fourth, and ending in disaster. I ended up fall in in the pool, full dressed, sweater, shoes and all and worst of all, right in front of Shay. I floated back up, wiping the water off my face and pushing the hair off my face. I was on the verge of yelling, I opened my mouth, and ended up laughing.
"Thanks, Snowball!" I yelled at my dog who was now at the end of the yard, playing with a yellow bone. I sighed and before I knew it, Shay jumped in too. I squeaked and gave him a serious stare.
"Hey, it is a celebration, right?" he said. I studied him, his expression seems happier than the day we met, liked that, we didn't know each other that well, but we made a connection you know? I smiled and looked at the night sky, stars hovering over me. I like this idea of riding around with my rocks and best friend. I just hope I don't forget my roots. I smiled and looked at Shay, who was smiling as well. It all started out at a coffee shop, now me and Christian Novelli are going out on an adventure.
