We live in an amazing world, beautiful sites, amazing people and so many great opportunities flying our way from every direction. But, unfortunately when you look past the exterior their is something tearing away at us that needs to be urgently fixed. Society has caused a lot of problems and we need to fix them.
"Society says: Be yourself, no not like that."This quote sums up one of the biggest problems with our world. Since when did the opinion of society become what we all have to be. These days society says your perfect if your are skinny and tall or if you act cool and take pictures of arty food. Society says if you want to have friends and be liked you have to hang out with the "in group". So society is basically saying if I don't sit over that side of the playground in that circle I'm not cool or good enough. Well that makes sense. Now the problem with this picture of the perfect person or life is that no one is perfect. Everyone has imperfections, that's what makes us human. Why cover up what defines us? Why hide who you are? This picture that society pressures us to be has very harmful effects on us. 9% of Australia's population last year were anorexic. Now while this percentage sounds small that's 2,158,607 people with anorexia just last year in Australia. Now I'm not saying that society is the only reason for this number, but it plays a big part in this growing problem. Being unique is frowned upon. Why? Because when your a little bit different your, classified as weird or uncool. The people who are classified as uncool do the most amazing things. Wifi, the reason for our existence, was invented by Bill O'Sullivan and some co workers. Do you think they did this by sitting in a circle at school, going to the gym and posting selfies on Instagram. The answer is most definitely not. So why does society think this is the way we should act? We will never know...
How do we fix this problem? It's starts with this generation. It's starts with us we have to show that we have the determination to overcome this problem, to speak out. Who cares what people say, who cares if they think your weird isn't this what we are trying to show, to overcome.
