Aspen POV

It's hard to sleep nowadays knowing that the king doesn't like me and all.

I feel as if when I shut my eyes to rest someone will come into my chamber slit my throat, and I will never reopen them.

My parents have noticed my fatigue, but I tell them that it's nothing. They usually don't question me and carry on with whatever they're doing.

Sleep deprived for another night, I got out of bed and walked down the hallway.

I passed the king's room and heard the sound of a woman's voice.

I shook my head, not even interested in what was happening behind those closed mahogany doors.

I continued walking till I heard the door to the king's room creak open.

Out stepped the king with a female.

"Always a pleasure your majesty.." she spoke in a sweet tone that made me sick to my stomach.

He took her hand and kissed it before nodding towards the exit.

"Goodnight." he said coldly before walking into his room and slamming the doors in the girl's face.

The girl seemed taken back by his actions and stood outside of his door for a few more moments before walking towards the exit.

Poor girl, poor slutty girl.

I know that that sounds like such a tacky remark to make, but she just sold her purity to a snake in king's clothing.

Personally, I feel as if your "youth" should be reserved for someone special, someone who cares for you. Not someone who won't remember who you are in about five minutes once he's had you.

The thought of the king doing things like this made me shiver and think about why this vial person could even be eligible to be a king.

I mean if there's anything that I have learned from being a princess, but more importantly watching my parents is that if your leader is weak, your country is as well.

King Louis is weak minded and twisted in the head, which makes the perfect recipe for chaos.

Anyway, I made my way down to the kitchen area to get some water. I didn't want to make a lot of noise and wake anyone up; I fear the consequences that would come from King Louis if I was the one who woke him from his slumber.

Although, I would love to get pots and pans and bang them together, while walking throughout the castle. The joy of making that man's life a living hell brought a sly smile to my face.

I'm not an evil person really I'm not, but if you actually KNEW King Louis...
Well, let's just say that you would want to find any possible way to annoy the shit out of him.

My thoughts were interrupted by a sound of a door opening, particularly the door that was in the kitchen.

I quickly hid behind one of the counters since I couldn't tell who the culprit was. Because I don't think jumping out of nowhere and trying to go all jiu-jitsu on his ass would be the brightest idea.

The full face of the Moon was shining bright tonight and illuminated the room, and as the man came into view I no longer considered him a threat to my well being. It was D'Artagnan.

The man crept his way through the corridors of the castle trying to be as quiet as humanly possible and not get caught.

Hmmm....Doesn't that sound familiar?

Soon, I heard the door to his chamber shut and I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.

Once I finished my water, I began to make my way back to my room. As I was walking through the corridors, I couldn't help but feel as if a pair of eyes watched my every move.

I stopped and turned around but no one was there. I probably sound completely paranoid, but I just have a eerie feeling.

I shook off the thought and began to continue my walk down the hallway, which now felt unending.

*click click*

The sound of shoes clicking against the glass-like floor could be heard from behind me. I spin around quickly and got a glimpse of my follower, it was D'Artagnan again.

" D'Artagnan, I know that's you. Please show yourself."

The man soon stepped out of the cape of darkness that the Moon provided.

"Forgive me my lady, but I didn't want to startle you."

"Oh it's quite alright, what do you need?" I asked in my sweet princess tone.

At my question he responded, "I have something for you." he paused while pulling a letter out of his coat and handed it to me.

"M'lady I don't know what is written on that letter I was only told to deliver it to you, but you must wait to open it till the ball in two weeks. Also, you must keep it hidden, no one can see it."

I nodded my head understanding him completely.

"Goodnight Princess." he spoke before sauntering back off to his room.

I then turned around and walked to my room with a million thoughts running through my head, all of them about the letter I held in my hand.

All I know is that by the way D'Artagnan stressed to me about keeping this letter a secret, it must be very important.

I took the letter and place it in the desk next to my bed. Once I did this, I laid down and tried to get some rest.
Eventually, my eyes began to droop and I fell asleep.

I just hope that I can keep this letter under lock and key.
