We won! We won!
The Grand Battle Of Somme they like to call it.
Our men, how they cheered, the Germans, oh how they sulked.
We finally beat them, giving them a taste of their own medicine, a taste of their own gas, a taste of their own devastation.
A taste of our strength, our revenge.
I am coming home, mother.
After almost a whole year of being deprived of your warm glow. I may not be coming home with a medal and a dozen trophies but all of those are worth nothing compared to your smile.
Just another month and we will be reunited.
Although the war is not over, my duty for my country is. And I am proud to say I served it well.
See you soon, Mother
Your dear son,
Gerard
