You don't know what you have until it's gone.
Sitting in bed with my bulky suite case leaning against my bed frame, all I can think about is how one minute I'm an only child with 2 best friends and an awesome family. Then the next minute I have 2 sisters and a twin brother and a different mom. It just makes you think how fast something can change in such a short period. Life is a series of thin lines.
I looked pass my pile of pillows and towards my clock. It read 11:30, which is the time my dad should be taking me to the airport. I walked down the stairs to find my dad grabbing the keys, "Ready?" He asked. I took a big breath, mentally preparing for the almost 8 hour plane flight. Good thing I stayed up all night looking up my new family. I found out that Liam's in a band called OneDirection. I looked more into Liam then the actual band. It seems as if Liam got all the talent in the family. I've downloaded some of their songs and one on one interviews with Liam. It's not stalker ish.. Ok it's kind of stalker ish but, whatever.
I do mental check list of everything, I actually had to pack some actual summer time clothes- bathing suites- because we're going to the beach for a week during my stay. I found out I'm staying in England for 2 months, pretty much the whole summer before I go off to college for my sophomore year. Which is crazy because at the same time Liam has to go off on another world tour.
During the car ride to the airport my dad told me about my mom. That she's always smiling and her laugh is so contagious. He said that I'm just like her and that made me.. proud? Happy? I don't know but, it was a good feeling. We stopped at a chick-fli-a for lunch cause I won't have to time when I get to the airport. He continues to talk about mom, I found out her name is Karen, and all their great memories. They seemed really in love and now, more than ever, I want to find out what happened between them. I vowed to myself that I'll save that question for Karen.
When we finally reach the security check, this is where non-flying residents aren't allowed to past- aka my dad- my dad hugs me. I feel drips of water into my hair and pull back. I see that he's crying.
"Dad, don't cry you're going to make me cry." He sniffles, and breaks into a smile.
"You realize this is going to be the longest time we've apart." I nod and tell him the usual. I'll call and Skype every night and blah blah blah.He hugged me one more time and then I realize this going to be the last daddy hug for 2 months. Now I'm crying because truth is my dad is always the pick me up for me. Now I won't have him. He moves my hair away from my face, "Go on, sweetie, or you'll miss your flight." He kissed my forehead then turned me around and pushed me. Not in a mean way but, like a "go on" way. I smiled and walked all the way through the security without looking back. Then on the other side I turned around and waved one last time to my dad.
I arrived at my gate about 30 minutes early, so I run to Starbucks to order a drink. Some comforting food would be excellent right now. I ordered my usual: Cotton Candy Frappé, my favorite. As I'm walking out, I see a familiar face.
"Hey Jessie! What are you doing here?" I asked because I'm pretty sure their NY plane doesn't leave until Friday, and today is Wednesday.
"I could ask you same the thing! Where are you going little missy?" So I tell her everything and she's as shocked as I was, maybe even shocker! I told her not to tell Lexi that I will do it over Skype or something soon. Jess promises to keep my secret and goes to work; Jessie started working at the airports Starbucks awhile ago apparently.
I sat there while she worked and talked until the intercom called my flight. I ran like there was no tomorrow. If I missed my flight how pissed would my dad would be. But when I got there the line was full and was moving slowly. I got to the back and kissed my window seat goodbye.
~~~~~on the plane ~~~~~
I was beyond shocked when I got the window, but disappointed that my row, of 3, was full. I told myself that I should try to go to the bathroom, knowing that frappé will kick in soon, before sitting down, but my legs disobeyed and started sliding into my seat. Next to me was a guy around my age and next to him was a grandma. No offense, she just looks like a grandma. I smile at the guy and turn to my iPhone. For the first two hours I just sat there and went through my camera roll and had one direction repeat. Then for 4 hours I slept cause the nigh before I didn't sleep as much as I wanted to.
For the last two hours I talked to the guy next to me. I found out that he's a year older than me and is interning in London. I told him that I was visiting some family, which isn't lying. Also, i found out his name is Chad, he seems very chill and laid back. Totally not my type, but he made time fly and before we knew it we hear the announcer lady asking us to fasten our seat belt we're about to land. Suddenly, all these nerves out of no where pop up, I don't know if it's because I'm nervous for landing or nervous that in an hour or 2 I'll be meeting my real mom and family. I wish dad could have came, he could have kept me calmed.
The landing wasn't as bad as I thought, but still made me very jumpy. Before we got off the plane Chad and I exchanged numbers and agree on to meet up sometime soon in London while we're both in the UK.
My train to Wolverhampton doesn't leave for another hour, so that gives me perfect time to go out and buy my dad a shirt that says "I love London" on it. I also buy one for Jessie and Lexi and slide it into my duffle bag. They promised me a New York shirt so for exchange I'll give them London shirts. I checked my phone to see it was 4 A.M. Which shocked me cause it only felt like 8 at night. Well actually I think I'm suffering from jet lag. At 5 a.m. on the dot a train rolls into the station waking me up from my little doze. I look around the station to see only me, two ladies, and a guy were still here.
The train setup is quite unusual, but then again how can I say that, this will be my first time on a train. There's a booth, it seats two, but instead of another seat facing the same direction it faces the opposite. It's kinda like a restaurant without a table between them. I sat in a booth without anyone in or near them. I put my duffle bag and suite case in the department on top of the seats.
This was the perfect time to call my parents at home, it should be around 10 o'clock. Before I could pull my phone out a male voice boomed through my ears,
"Excuse me miss? Is this seat taken?" I looked up to the guy who owned the voice. He took off his sunglasses and smiled a very polite smile.
That guy is Liam Payne.
