I woke up to the announcer saying we have arrived at L.A., "Finally" I said to myself . 13 hours earlier I had received a call by the Marshal, reporting a murder in L.A. I remembered him telling me to investigate the scene before retiring as a detective. I mumbled to myself as I gradually got off the plane, with people helping me with my suitcase. While walking to a car awaiting for me, my feet were getting soaked up by water, by a recent rainstorm. I opened the car door and gradually got in, and took off my shoes to avoid staining the car floor with water. The car smelled of cigarettes and foot but didn't even bother me because of the amount of perfume I had on me. The car ride was going to take up to 2 hours to get to my assigned apartment. After a long 2-hour odor ride, we finally made it. I got out of the car, the car driving and water splashing on me as the wheels on the car hit the water that was beside the curb, and right in front of me was my awaiting apartment and mysteries waiting to be solved.

I opened my door to a dusty and empty apartment, as it looked like no one had been living there for years. I walked to a bedroom and unpacked my clothes into drawers. I laid down on the dusty old bed and took out my phone and went ahead and called my friend Jesse, as I always called her when I was worried or bored. ¨Hi Jesse, what you doin'?¨, I said. ¨Nothin much, but I really sure do miss you.¨ ¨I do too¨ I said, ¨but sooner or later when I retire we will be best friends like any ordinary people. ¨Ok, bye then, I will call you later Dakota¨. ¨Ok¨, bye then, I said, then hung up. I laid there still on the bed, all restless and tired from the long 13-hour trip ride to L.A. including the 2 hour car ride. I draped a clean blanket that I had unpacked over me, then I went to sleep, for tommorow was awaiting for me.
