The moment we entered the arena, the team and I spent a few minutes in the locker room. From stretching, conditioning, to changing in our official uniforms. Just the usual things you see after playing veteran for this league. But now, it felt so much like home since it's been at least a few months since we all gathered up in the locker room waiting for our first official game.I feel pumped. Hopefully, I'm at my 100% today because I'm feeling really great. I just couldn't wait to get my hands on the ball and shoot from way downtown. Maybe a half-court shot too if I'm lucky.
I checked to see if my ankle braces were guarded well. Literally the weakest part of my body are these damn ankles and I just cannot afford to have another injury, or even surgery, in the middle of the season. I have another championship to win.
The other splash brother approached me, a towel draped on his shoulder as he tapped my back. "Feelin' good?"
"Never been better," I replied, grinning. I placed my foot above the chair and tied my lace up in these new Curry 2's (Thanks, Under Armour!)
"Good to hear, man, but you might wanna send that lock in tweet now." Klay raised his brows up an down.
Oh, shoot. Almost forgot.
I took my phone out my duffel bag and went to check my twitter. Many of my fans were wishing me luck and asking if I would be in the starting five.
Of course, I had to tweet the obligatory "lock in" so the fans would feel hyped. It kind of brings out the warrior spirit in them. And it has been tradition.
"@StephenCurry30: Lock in! #DubNation"
It took only a few seconds to get thousands of retweets. Damn, did I ever mention how truly amazing the Dub nation is? They are by far the best crowd ever and I mean it. I've played in different arenas before but you'll never hear loud roaring fans like here in Oracle. I guess it's only fair that we give them a good show.
Across the room, Draymond was swerving to CoCo, showing that set of white teeth he has.
"I'm in love with the coco," he sang. And when I looked at the others, they began singing, too. I couldn't help but join them.
"I got if for the low, low."
Barbosa started making this weird shit noise that was really hilarious.
"Whip it through the glass, nigga."
This song is very memorable for us because it served as our championship song. We sing it everywhere; the bus, the plane, even at practice.
Our little singing show was cut short as the sound of Coach Kerr's whistle rang our ears. DG was quick to pause the song.
"Uhh, why you gotta cut us out like that on our song?" I joked.
Shaun laughed along. "Yeah, we were jammin'."
Coach had a nice smile on his face as he entered the locker room. He was in the best mood, I could tell.
"Alright, everyone settle down," he spoke like a teacher would to his students. "You can sing that damn song anytime but I gotta make my announcements."
I sat at the nearest bench and had all eyes on the legend before us.
"I know all of you are still loving the fact that you have that defending Champions title and it's okay to feel a little confident and all, maybe enjoy the game how you want it, but I want to see a game from the champions. I want to seeing you applying our drills properly, doing the fundamentals right, and making plays. I don't want to see a mediocre high school basketball just because you felt a little too confident. Remember, the contender is much more willing to beat the defending champs on their Home so don't embarrass yourselves in front of the dub nation. Capeesh?"
