CHAPTER 4
I opened my eyes and they slowly adapted to my surroundings I jumped up realising I couldnt breathe I thrashed my arms around trying to swim throught the thick water only to realise I couldnt swim...i couldnt move.. I tried to thrash my legs through the water but nothing happened,i looked down to where my legs used to be ,my eyes went wide as I took in the sight ,i no longer had legs but in their place there was a long indigo couloured tail ,i pulled back ,only to see that the tail followed me ,i screamed and remembered I could not breathe ...shouldnt I be dead ? ,but it didnt seem to be affecting me ,i turned back to the tail and looked around for some sort of confirmation that this was a dream ,i realised I was laying at the bottom of an oversized crab catching net I squirmed around trying to get up ,i grabbed the sides of the cage only to fall back down ,i screamed as I felt a sharp pain across my stomach ,my hands flew to the pain ,as I looked down to two webbed hands covered in blood I pulled my now webbed hands away from my body as i shook my head in disbelief and looked back at the huge gash across my stomach it was misting in the water ,and something in my head told me to touch it,i couldnt stop myself from what I did next ,i slid my finger along the gash slowly ,taking the agonising pain as I watched the wound heal before my eyes ,i gasped gripped the side of the cage once more this time ,managing to pull myself to the top of the cage , 'no' I cried when I realised the top of the cage was closed, and I grabbed it and pushed it ,and to my surprise it flung right off ,giving me enough room to pull myself out and fall to the sandy floor of the sea ,i sat there for what felt like hours until I heard a loud farmilliar screeching I reached for a rock nearby heaving my body with the guidancce of the rocks ,untill I reached a small dark cave ,i pulled myself inside it dragging my long indigo tail behind me I leaned my back against a wall inside the dark cave ,and tugged my tail under the dark cover of the shaddows ,i watched as four mer creatures swam gracefully towards the crab cage there were four woman or fish I couldnt tell I felt my eyes go wide at the sight of them ...this has to be some sort of dream.....i remembered the stories my mother would tell me about sirens ,they were flawless to the simple human eyes and ears ,but a mermaid could tell them for what they really were ,these creatures were not mermaids they were ugly creatures with webbed fingers like mine and long stringy tails ,they all had black hair longer than their bodies except for one she had medium length red hair ,i gasped and remembered the jet ski crash and what I saw two nights ago ,i heard the red haired siren screech again when she saw the empty cage ,and I tried not to move ,the four fought screeching back and forthat each other, for what felt like hours before they swam away ,when I thaught it was clear I came out of the cave and pulled my self up the steep rocky surface above ,until I felt my head break the surface I gasped as I took in a jagged breath of air,it felt weird ......unnatural ,i looked across the water to see bella,tyler,tane,nick,adrian and a few lifeguards talking on the beach bella was crying and yelling at one of the lifeguards adrian was trying to calm her ,i couldnt hear them because they were about 350 metres away so I was surprised I could even see them I pulled myself up the cliff edge and onto a ledge so the top half of my body was surfaced then I flipped myself around and sat on the edge pulling my tail up ,i sat on the ledge staring at the tail expecting my legs to just magically appear they didnt I felt a sudden urge to emerge myself in water so I continually scooped water out with my hand and drank it quickly ,i felt so dehydrated ,and short of breath, I looked back to the beach where my friends were standing and I began to sob ,i remember something about the only way a mermaid could change to a human is if she is on dry land on her 16th birthday ,but i was already 16 ,was there another way? I couldnt remember .
I felt tears rolll down my cheek and I began to sob louder ,i heard the tears splash into the water below .....splash....splash.....splash.....splash....splash.....splash.....
I looked back to the beach as I heard one last splash and I saw tyler ,almost instantly when the lasst tear dropped into the water he snapped his head around towads me ,i gasped ,and as if I wasnt in controll of myself anymore I dove into the water as fast as I could and I took off at an amazing speed ,wait....im swimming,and the water quickly rehydrated my body and I noticed my skin glowing ,almost metalic, I could have smiled if
...well if i wasnt a mermaid.
