It always amused her how quickly everything could go wrong from a simple action.

Lighting a cigarette Adrien Smith smiled to herself as she leaned against a brick wall, the shouts heard from the race track amusing her. She took a deep drag of her cigarette, the burning tip being the only light from where she stood.

She knew how to blend into the shadows, to go unseen by unwanted eyes. It was a talent really, if she allowed herself such praises. But she rarely did. Pride was a man's weakness, not hers.

Releasing the smoke from her lungs she looked up to the cloudy night sky, rain softly falling around her. It seemed almost humorous how the day was so bright and full of promise but the coming night held no such thing. It began to rain after the first horse went down. The screams of angry men and cries of women letting Adrien know she had done her job.

Her clients would be happy with her job. This also served to show she was good on her word and worth every penny they gave her. "Another step closer..." She reminded herself.

Keeping her composure when the Shelby boys came out was easy, their reactions expected. Tense shoulders, harsh tones as they talked amongst themselves, feet practically slamming against the wet cobblestone as they paced. Well, as the leader paced.

"Thomas Shelby." Adrien thought to herself as she crushed her finished cigarette beneath her shoe. "I'll be seeing you soon."

Flipping up her collar against the weather and pulling her cap down lower she began back the way she came, deeper into the shadows.
