'Sky, we're here' Kale said softly.
I was already regretting coming back here. Facing the people that had made my pregnancy very stressful. I'd been pushed, shoved, called horrible names all whilst pregnant. My insignificant existence suddenly became interesting for everyone else. I became an oddity and a laughing stock. I felt like an exibit in a museum, and now here I was, back in hell.
Austin stirred, I turned to look at my perfect little boy, I was doing this for him. I looked up at the imposing red brick building. It was lunch time and he should be coming out soon.
'Do you want me to come with you, Sky?' Kale nudged my arm.
'Yes please, I'm a little bit scared, I was going to face him on my own, I didn't want him to see Austin but I want someone there for me.' I'd bought Austin with me because both Austin and his father deserved to at least meet each other, even if were to be short lived.
I saw the doors of the school open and the pupils all filed out, Chris came out surrounded by his usual gaggle of girls. I felt nothing but disgust.
'There he is' I pointed to the bench where Chris was sat. 'Let's go'
I got out of the car on shaky legs. I avoided the eyes that I knew were surely fixed on me. I was well known in this school, if not at all popular.
Kale had picked up a sleep Austin and grabbed my hand for support. It was shaking, badly. He gave it a squeeze, letting me know he was there.
'Come on, you can do this Sky.' he ushered me towards Chris.
As I approached the table, the grounds were silent, everyone patiently watching the drama that was sure to unravel, Chris' eyes widened in surprise and briefly flickered to Kale who had Austin gripped tightly to his chest, his little starfish hands playing with the hair at the nape of his neck.
Chris was without a doubt gorgeous, he had dark hair cropped close to his head, blue eyes and he was well over 6ft. I heard murmurs of slut of whore from his 'friends' at his table, I ignored them, they weren't anything new. I'd heard them before.
'What do you want Sky?' Chris hissed, running his hand up and down a blonde girls neck. I was tempted to tell her she'd end up the new me, God knows how many half brothers and sisters Austin has running around, or how many young girls he has ruined.
'Can we talk to you in private please, it'll take a few minutes.' He nodded and told the girls in no uncertain terms to piss off.
'You look really hot Sky, you back for round two.' He reached over to rub my arm only to have his hand caught in Kale's vice like grip. You gotta love an overprotective best friend. 'Do not touch her' Kale sneered.
'I'll get straight too it Chris, I've met somebody else, and I love him and he loves me. Both me and Austin. We want to be a family. I want you to hand over all your parental rights to Austin. Today. Do this and you'll never see us again.'
'Who's Austin?' he asked stupidly.
'Your son fuck face, are you fucking stupid?' Kale showed him Austin. Just for a moment Chris' eyes softened, looking into his son's face for the first time, it quickly disappeared.
'I don't want it, I don't want to look at it and I don't want to see your disgusting faces ever again. Give me the fucking paper. You dirty little slut. Are you sure it's even mine?'
Kale quickly passed me Austin and went to lunge at him but I caught his eye, instead he sat back down and pulled the paper from his pocket and passed it to Chris, who hastily scribbled his signature where indicated.
'Thank you, you're doing the right thing. This is the last you'll see of us.' I got up and walked away. I was halfway across the grass when I heard the crunch of Kale breaking Chris' nose.
I ignored the excited whispers and put Austin in his car seat. Tears running freely down my face, partly due to humiliation and partly because it was over. The car door slammed and Kale sat in the driver's seat flexing his knuckles. He took one look at my face before pulling me into his arms allowing me to ruin his shirt with smudges of mascara.
'Thank you Kale, can we go now?'
'Yeah we can go, but can you drive, my hand hurts.' he grinned at me.
We stopped half way home to eat and so I could change and feed Austin, Kale also requested ice for his now swollen hand. I could only imagine how Chris' face looked.
We arrived home at half past 3. Ashton was die any minute now. I changed into my pj's and slipped into the bed with Austin as Ashton opened the bedroom door. I was still fairly paler than usual after today's events, my eyes red from crying. I looked ill and I was mentally exhausted.
Ashton came and perched on the edge of the bed, 'Are you ok? You don't look too good' he asked, feeling my forehead. I couldn't help it, I could feel the tears making tracks down my cheeks before I could stop them. 'Hey, what's up baby, you haven't been yourself all day, I tried calling you at lunch but you must've been asleep.'
'I'm fine, I'm just feeling sorry for myself. I'm hungry can we order in and watch a movie in here?' I placed my lips against his, revelling in his touch.
'Ok, as long as we can watch despicable me, you got yourself a deal.' he said slipping into his sweats. He picked up his phone and dialled for pizza and slipped into the bed, sitting Austin on his chest so he could watch the TV.
As we ate our pizza and watched our favourite film, I kept my eyes on Austin and Ashton, you'd never know they weren't blood related, They were so alike, both laying back in the same position, the same expression on their face.
I snuggled closer to Ashton, I was so lucky to have found someone as perfect as he.
'Ash, I love you, so much. Don't ever forget that.' I looked deeply into his eyes.
He stared at me curiously, he knew me too well, I was not often this quiet, we were very similar Ash and I, both not very outgoing. We always ended up close to each other, no matter what we were doing. He was my other half. He knew something was wrong, but he wouldn't press me.
'I love you so much, I've got you the best Christmas present ever, that will prove to you just how much you mean to me.' He said proudly.
I grinned back at him, 'You're present will never beat mine.'
I could guarantee that.
