Prologue:
Candles, their funny little things. Different colours, different scents, different sizes. Sometimes, you can tell the personality of a person through their candles. My mum, for instance likes very bold candles with strong scents. Soft scents are what I prefer. I like the ones that smell like clean laundry, that's my favorite scent in the whole wide world. You'd never think that a simple candle would hold a secret would you? My names Lily, Lily Luna Potter.
"Mum, may I be excused?" I looked up at my mum. People were always telling me how much we looked alike. I guess that's a good thing because my mum beautiful. She glanced at my father, who nodded. "I suppose, remember to clean you plate.
I placed my plate in the sink, grabbed a match and headed to my bedroom. They were deep red, the walls. Then I had four shelves filled with small, circular unscented candles. Every night, I meditated from the time supper was over until I got tired. Tonight would be the last night though, you see, tomorrow was the start if my third year at Hogwarts. James, my eldest brother was entering his seventh year, he was in Gryffindor. Albus, the middle child in our family was in his fifth year and in Slytherin. And then there's me, a third year Ravenclaw. In the middle of lighting my candles, my match went out. "Shit." I said under my breath.
"Albus, do you have a ma-" A slight scream escaped my lips as I walked into my brothers room. "What are you doing? Who's she?" Albus's face turned red just as it always does when he's angry. "Get outta my room you little Git!"
"I just wanted a match." The girl Albus was snogging laughed uncomfortably as I looked at her. She was a Slytherin. "I'm Paisley." The girl said excitedly. At least it was a decent one this time. Last summer, Albus brought home a complete whore who was dressed like she was going to the beach.
"Why in the bloody hell would I have a frickin match in my room? Now scram!" Sometimes I can't help but laugh at my brothers anger issues. Maybe James has one.
"Hey James?" The door flew open.
"Yes?"
"Do you by chance have a match?" James chuckled. "Why are you always asking people if they have matches?"
"To light my candles..." James and Albus always tease me when I meditate. At least James was joking, Albus was always so mean.
"You are obsessed with candles! And no sorry I don't have a match."
"Oh that's fine. Did you see the girl in Albus's room?" James smiled. Every summer we would have a competion to see who walks in on Albus more. James won last year so this year I was determined to beat him.
"Well I guess you won this year." James says writing something on a piece if parchment. "You won by one point." Finally! James has won the past two years.
"Yes! How many did he bring home this year?"
"Fifteen. That's five more than last year!"
"Who in their right mind would like Albus?"
"I don't know but mum's gonna freak when I tell her. Good luck with your candles." James raced down the stairs eager to tattle on Albus. The both if us were always ganging up on him.
How do I light these candles? Maybe I'll just use one to light the rest. After I was done with the candles, I lite the incense then crossed my legs and sat up on my bed. Luna Lovegood, my godmother was the one who taught me how to meditate. A few years back, when the boys were at school, I was spending the night with her.
"Meditating is a way to connect with you inner thoughts and reflect."
That's how I got into mediating. Ever since that day, I have mediated every night. People always think that only Buddhists meditate. Then you like hum or something. Well those people are stereotyping kinds of people because it's perfectly normal for a thirteen year old girl to meditiate.
"Tonight I will reflect on this summer." I said to myself. Luna had told me to start out by saying what you will reflect on. What have I done this summer? Well, 10 July was my birthday. Hugo and Rose had come over. We had cake. I got a letter from Luna and a package attached. She had sent me incense. It smelled like clean laundry, my favorite smell in the whole wide world. I told Luna everything. She was like my second mother. You see, parent always have a favorite child. James is my mum's and Albus is my dad's. Since Luna doesn't have any kids I'm her favorite goddaughter. I'm not saying I don't love my parents, I just treat Luna as a parent as well. What else had happened this summer. Well, I spent a week at Uncle Bill's that was fun. As soon as I got deep into my thoughts, something interrupted me.
"Albus!" I yelled as I grabbed a pillow to throw at him. "Get out!" The pillow hit his head then he grabbed it and whipped it back at me. "Mum said to come down because Hermione and Ron are here."
"Fine I'll be down in a second."
Albus left then I blew out all the candles and tidied up my room. I always have to make myself presentable for Rose because she is very critical and will make fun of me if my room's messy. Both Rose and Hugo were in Gryffindor. Rose was in Albus's year while Hugo was in my year.
As I stepped out of my room, I noticed a small parcel on the floor. I opened it and found a small purple candle. There was no note indicating who it was from. Before I went downstairs I put it in my trunk. This will be good for my dorm.
