Chapter 1: petrichor

The waves and the rocks define each other. Without the wave,a rock would never know the power of surrender. Without the rock ,the wave would spend itself quietly on the shore, never finding a way to transform its smooth perfection Into a fierce explosion of beauty.

Cheryl was too caught up in the sensuous beauty of the ocean and sunset to notice violet slip In next to her. Ever since they were toddlers, they would creep up to this part of the ocean they like to call 'the rock'.
It was big enough to keep them safe from the deceptive waves of the sea and away from the grabby reach of reality.
if there was a place called paradise, this was definitely it.

Violet knew where to find her on days like these..when she would sit and smile for no real reason,a place where she could forget herself and enjoy the sensuous beauty of nature, away from the reach of the monster called reality. This was the place where you could actually see her smiling from the heart and not her mind. The only place where no one demanded anything and no one sacrificed anything bit  gave everything.

"Hiding?"violet asked cheryl who nodded in response. "D-DAY?"she probed again and received another nod.

"Zach?"cheryl broke the silence and received a thoughtful nod . The two were so close that they didn't even need properly baked sentences to get their point across.

Sighing simultaneously, the two stared at the serene view In front of them ,enveloped in a comfortable and familiar silence.

Earlier ,when the light had begun to slant and deepen into late afternoon, cheryl had picked her way out on the rocky point across her house, set up her camera and waited for the moment when the sun would set fire to the serene face of the sea.
"Perfect." Two sighed and chuckled at the coincidence.

Beneath her practices ,calm motions, excitement threads through Cheryl.
The view in front of them was one that made the viewer stop, stare and assess reality .

Everything was perfect today . the tide was low, sky clear and the surface of the sea was a fluid gemstone shimmering with light.
Today, four years back ,cheryl had found out that her husband was using her for her money and had caught him sleeping around with her sister. Her sister ,for gods sake! The man had been demeaning and his demands degrading.

Today, nineteen years back, cheryl had lost her mother. Although she doesn't remember her mothers facial construction very well, she remembers the amazing times she had before god decided to take her into his arms. Those were memories no one could take away.
Impatiently, cheryl pushed away the past and its unwelcome memories and instead concentrated on the serene view in front of her.
Some things were worth forgetting .
Easier said than done.
